I have been paying for this car for about a year and 3 months (15 months), and come to find out when I went to trade it in the car isn't showing up on either of my credit reports nor are they showing up on the co-signers credit report. The dealership I purchased it from has closed down and there is no way to get in contact with them along with finding out why it isn't reporting on my report. The only concern I have is having a car that we don't even know if were the legal owners and still making payments on it.

Contact the lender, not the dealership

Your lender is the entity that reports your payments to the 3 credit reporting agencies. Not all lenders report. Contact your lender to see which CRA's they report your payment history to, if any. If the particular lender you used to finance this vehicle does not report, you can refinance your vehicle with one that does report. Try a local credit union. You can bring in proof of payments made to your current lender for consideration. For confirmation of ownership, contact the DMV. The DMV would also show the lienholder for the vehicle loan against your vehicle title.
