I bought a washer/dryer from Appliance Smart Outlet in Columbus OH in May 2014 on the "why not lease it" program, 90 days same as cash. I used the 90 day same as cash option as I was closing on a house soon and didn't want it showing on my credit report so the sales person recommended this option

This was a huge mistake and if I can stop even one person from making a similar mistake it is worth my time.

First of all - I lost my job 30 days later and so I was not able to pay off my purchase   Before losing my job I signed in online to make a 300$ payment, only to find out you cannot make additional payments online.  I called to make it and had to call 3 times before ever being able to make the additional payment (they DONT want you to pay this off in 90 days and make it as difficult as possible)

I called last month to make a final payoff and because it was 2 days before my next payment was due - they would not accept my payment.  So they will not take your money when you have it so that they can beat you down with interest )

I called today and got the same story - my payment was not scheduled until tomorrow , but they started the process and would not accept my payoff.

I bought a washer dryer for 1500.

I paid 800 within 90 days.

I have since paid another $1515 in scheduled payments

To pay off my account I am required to pay 900$ (the hole just keeps getting bigger)

I call to make the payoff today and again am told they will not accept it.

Now if I call Monday, they may take my payoff, which is now 925$$$ or so -

So I will now pay an additional 130 for my regular payment

925 to pay off the "loan" - or as I call it, loan shark

soo when it is all said and done a washer and dryer I could have purchased anywhere for 1500 or less, I will pay $2525 in total - and I only bought the items 6 months ago - that is quite a mark up

I am lucky I have the money to pay it off now, or I would have been charged, 260/month until december 2015

Customer service is awful

The idea that they will NOT ACCEPT a payoff until your next payment is made is highway robbery since they know that the payoff increases each pay period.

No flexibility - no one to speak to about your problem,

Very sad that folks who are in dire financial straights have little choice but to resort to these rip off artists.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS HYPE - the sales person will never tell you how quickly the interest will accrue and how you will NEVER catch up.
