I had a Loan with Achieva Credit Union which I paid in full, then months later acquired another Loan with Achieva, which I also paid in full.  I currently only have a Credit Card with Achieva  Due to a lot of unexpected problems, house repairs, car repairs, and medical issues I applied for another loan with Achieva, which was denied.

The underwriter claims I only want this loan to pay off other Achieva accounts, which is not a legitimate reason for a denial.   When I called Achieva to file a complaint, I was told I could not do so, but was transferred  to the Loan Department, and left a voice mail.  I therefore obtained a loan elsewhere with a more ethical lender.

I had paid off 2 loans from Achieva, and currently have 1 credit card from Achieva.  I clearly stated that I needed the loans due to unexpected expenses, house repairs, car repairs, and medical issues.   To assume I was going to use the loan to pay off my credit card or a loan from another company, is just that, an assumption, not a fact, and I do not appreciate people making false accusations about me.

I did get a loan from another company, and did use it for my emergency expenses, house repairs, car repairs, and medical issues, not to pay off credit cards, or  loans from other companies.  Unfortunately a person can not plan ahead for Emergencies, especially when they are on a fixed budget to begin with, as a Disabled Senior Citizen.  Hopefully I made my point clear!

Not to mention....

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

The lender who has allowed you to borrow once, twice, or two hundred times is under no obligation to lend you another penny, ever. They don't NEED what you think is a "legitimate reason for denial"- they can simply say NO. It's THEIR MONEY. Though I suspect that if pressed they would simply say that they find your regular need for loans to be a red flag.

You also don't mention the size of the loans you've been approved for in the past compared to the size of the loan you need to deal with "unexpected problems," which sounds substantial. I'm guessing it comes to a lot more than you've ever borrowed before, right? I also don't think you know what "ethical" means.

There's nothing "unethical" about a lender refusing a particular person a loan unless it's being done based on race, color, creed, sex or nationality- then it would be not only unethical, but also illegal. You do not suggest any of these, and they've lent money to you before. Expand your vocabulary and cut the hyperbole.

Ethics has nothing to do with this

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, September 15, 2019

Ethics has nothing to do with you getting approved or denied for a loan. Contrary to what you think the reason they denied the loan is legitimate. It is their money and they can decide who they will and wil not loan it to. In your case they feel that you were just going to get the loan to pay off their credit card. With many banks and credit unions they will not allow you to do this. Even if it wasn't your intention, they aren't required to give you a loan based on past repayment history.

By the way when you got the loan with the other bank, were they right? Did you pay off the credit card?

Discrepancy

You stated you ONLY have one credit card from them. Yet you say the loan was denied because they thought you were going to pay off other ACCOUNTS (plural) from this CU. If you ONLY have the credit card, why did you use the plural form of account? If you were indeed applying for a loan to pay off another loan and they denied you, this is NOT illegal, immoral or unethical and that is a FACT!
