Vader was loved, adored, by his family for 11 years. He was not just a dog, he was FAMILY. They were responsible owners. They kept Vader in their house and when they walked him, he was always on leash.
On January 24, Vader was walking with his owner ON LEASH when a small dog ran out from the bushes toward Vader.

Startled, Vader did what many dogs would do...He was trying to protect his human and, sensing a threat, he sadly, hurt the dog, whose injuries were too severe and the offleash small dog died. Animal control was called out. The family tried to explain what happened. The animal control officer told the family that if they didn't place Vader on the Animal Control vehicle, he would have to report him as a vicious animal and have him euthanized.

The family was confused, but was told that they could probably get Vader back with the help of a rescue organization. They visited Vader in the shelter and cried. The children in the family couldn't go to school, they were so upset. I am told that they called the shelter several times, begging the manager to release their dog back to them.

The cold-hearted reply was, something to the effect of "I'm killing your dog and there's nothing you can do about it" A rescue group attempted to intervene. An attorney was contacted, but the shelter killed Vader before anyone could help. There was no reason to kill him. He could have remained in the shelter until the issue was litigated, but they raced to a killing "solution" as if to show they could win. The shelter and animal control officer were judge/jury and executioner.

Vader's family is completely destroyed. He lived with 2 other dogs and young children. There was NEVER a problem with him. This is a travesty. If you're as upset at this injustice as I am, please join me by sending your email complaints to the shelter manager (who at this point, just needs to go!) and to the city officials who can make the decision to install a humane management team to oversee this shelter:
