I placed a $100 fully refundable deposit for a kitten at an agreed-upon price. After confirming the kitten’s birth and affirming the agreed terms, the breeder, Katia Kingston (née Nickolova) of Kingpin Siamese in Old Lyme, Connecticut, raised the price by $200 the very next day and gave me an ultimatum: either pay more or get a refund.

Despite repeatedly stating in writing that the deposit was fully refundable, no questions asked, she later sent a refund check with an undisclosed deduction and no prior explanation. I only learned of the deduction when I received the check.

This bait-and-switch pricing, failure to honor refund agreements, and lack of transparency are not only unethical but also violate consumer protection laws against deceptive trade practices. I have retained all correspondence proving these misleading actions.

If you are considering buying a Siamese kitten or cat from Kingpin Siamese or Katia Kingston (née Nickolova) in Old Lyme, Connecticut, be cautious! This breeder does not uphold fair or ethical business practices.

She reached out to me about 2.5 years ago requesting a kitten. She is an attorney. Please note that I am not operating a business—breeding kittens is simply a hobby I pursue for competitive purposes. When I had a kitten available in the specific color she wanted, I contacted her multiple times via text and phone calls. After several attempts, she finally responded, and I confirmed I had a kitten for her. We had several phone conversations during which I explained that, due to inflation, I needed to raise the adoption fee. With increases in the costs of cat food, electricity, vaccinations, gas, and vet visits, I could no longer honor the original price. I offered to split the difference with her. She understood and agreed to the new fee. She committed to adopting the kitten and even provided a name for it. The kitten shared the same birth date as her dog, which she was excited about. However, a few days later, she requested a refund of her $100 deposit by mail. I complied, deducting $5 for mailing fees, and included a note on the check explaining the deduction. I am attaching a photo of the check I mailed to her. I am shocked that she subsequently filed a report about this situation. Could you please advise on how to resolve this matter so the posting can be removed?
