August 7, 2025, I placed an online order with Maelys Cosmetics under their “Try Before You Buy” program. The offer clearly stated that only the shipping cost would be charged upfront, and that the full product cost would only be billed if I decided to keep it.

However, as soon as I placed the order, Maelys processed a $200 charge on my account far beyond the advertised shipping fee. Within minutes of placing the order and seeing the unauthorized charge, I immediately emailed the company requesting to cancel the order.

Despite this prompt cancellation request, Maelys refused, claiming the order had already been “sent to the warehouse” for fulfillment. In reality, the warehouse did not ship the package until 11 hours after I requested cancellation. This proves they had ample time to stop the shipment but chose not to.

When I contacted my bank to report the unauthorized charge, they treated it as fraud and initiated a dispute. I also have full documentation of the emails, the company’s refusal to cancel, and the shipping timeline.

I believe this is a deceptive and unfair business practice because:

1. Unauthorized Charge: I was charged $200 immediately instead of only paying shipping as advertised.

2. Refusal to Cancel: My cancellation request was made within minutes of ordering, yet they still processed and shipped the order.

3. False Excuse: They claimed the order was already being processed, yet the shipment happened 11 hours later.

4. Shifting the Burden to the Consumer Rather than stopping the order, they forced me to wait for delivery and deal with a return.
