In October 2020 I was interested in learning about writing screenplays and found a free service in Open Screenplay. It seemed okay, and I had a go at it, but in the end, decided not to go with this business. I left the account open since it was a free membership, just in case I changed my mind.
However, on Sunday 6 March 2022, approximately 17 months later, I received an email congratulating me on becoming a member of Open Screenplay advising me of my membership purchase of USD89.
I was extremely shocked and upset as I haven't even been on the website for months! I therefore, have not done anything which could have possibly triggered this supposed membership - especially since I've had a FREE membership for almost 18 months!
I was also upset because I never received an email from them advising of any changes to their membership program. This meant they never gave me the opportunity to close my account before they charged me this membership fee. This means that I NEVER AUTHORISED this fee to be charged to my account and they have acted in an ILLEGAL (bare minimum - extremely UNETHICAL) manner.
I have sent them three emails over this past week and have not received a single response from this business. This is another indicator that they aren't owning up to their ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL action. (I have reported them to my bank and they are taking the matter up on my behalf.) I am putting this notification on here to warn others about this business. I am suspect about their supposed competitions and this latest actions effectively confirms my suspicions that this business is a SCAM, despite it appearing legitimate.
I advised them in my emails that I would take this action if they didn't respond to my emails, so I have given them PLENTY of warning to take action to rectify this ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL action.
Please take EXTREME CAUTION when dealing with OPEN SCREENPLAY as they are clearly an extremely DODGY business.
