I moved in to 1825 Place Apartments in November of 2003, very satisfied with the exterior and interior look of the complex. The prices were right and all was well for 6 months - the BOOM, the cold water started to smell as I turned on the faucet each day in the kitchen and in the bathroom.

Months went by after I first reported this and finally the apartments took some initiative to call the local water company (so they said). They came and cleaned our Hot Water Heaters as this is what "they claimed the cause was" of the smelly water. (THE WATER SMELLS GREEN AT THIS POINT AND UNSAFE TO DRINK, although the apts said it was fine to use) Who would want to? How could you?

Now - I've been there almost two years fighting a no win battle, and lies upon lies from the management stating they were building a water filtration system - I found out on my own by calling the local Water Utility that the apartments are simply not doing the required cleaning of the water system on a weekly basis.

This information was provided by the Water Manager for the local company the apartments use for water. He said he had been out countless times to test and to train them on the water filtration. He said they know what to do - they just aren't doing it and I'm very sorry ma'am. He even offered to come out and test the water in my apartment so he could report any findings to me in the even I sued them for the cut-off of my lease.

You have to be able to provide proof that the money is actually there, of course. I have seen this tactic work on some scummy landlords! You also have to notify the landlord of your intent to do this. I recommend a certified letter so that you have proof he/she received it! Good luck!
