The company represented that my vehicle would be transported from point A in California to point B at their terminal in Evanston, IL within ten (10) from time of pick-up.

The vehicle was picked-up on June 21, 2005 and until today, July 7, 2005 the vehicle still has not been delivered.

I have called numerous times to try to resolve the matter. A representative by the name of Mark asked that I send an email to lodge my complaint. This was sent on June 29th and there has been no response from the company or Mark.

I then called Mark again on June 30th and he represented that I would have the vehicle delivered by Friday, July 8th. I have inquired on July 7th and 8th regarding the delivery and now I am being told that it may be delivered on Sunday, July 10, 2005.

The amount of $770.00 was paid upfront for an expedite service which entailed guaranteed delivery within 10 days from the date of pick-up. I have not been offered a refund. I have not been given accurate information.

Furthermore, I have requested to disclose the precise location of the vehicle so that I may pick it up myself. When this is requested I get the run-around and the information is not given.

Info on car hauling..I used to do it..BEWARE of double talk by brokers..

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

"D",

The very FIRST question you need to ask when arranging for transport of a vehicle is whether the company you are paying is a broker who only arranges transport and owns no trucks, or are they the actual carrier who owns the trucks and employs the drivers.

If you are dealing with a broker, they will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your money. NEVER pay a broker until you have the terms in wriring!! This is standard proceedure, and is required by law in most states. The FMCSA requires full disclosure of costs and terms of any shipment of property.

Did you get a written guarantee of 10 days, or was the agreement verbal? Did you ask for the "carriers" MC# and proof of insurance first? Or did you just hand your car off to anyone that showed up with a truck?

As far as the rates go, expedited service is VERY expensive as the truck has to earn a certain amount per mile. If you have 1 vehicle on the truck on an expedited load your vehicle has to pay the entire cost of the trip which is at least $1.50+ per mile, usually more.

If there are 5 vehicles on the truck, the mileage rates are divided by the leg of each trip for each vehicle, including deadhead mileage in between for pickup.

I have been paid as much as $2600 for 1 vehicle expedited service as that was my truckload rate for the specified mileage.

Go to FMSCA website and get a "carrier snapshot" to get the carrier license info and status, and file a complaint online.

Good luck.

ps..If you have a written guarantee of 10 day delivery, on the 11th day you can file a claim on the insurance or bond of the "carrier". This usually gets results real quick.

I have to agree with the transporter on this one

I buy and sell classic cars all the time, and ship them all over the country. $770 from CA to IL is a little high, but not out of the ordinary. 7-10 days is just an estimate, and depends on how many pick-ups and drop-offs they have en-route.

However, guaranteed delivery is NOT double, it's usually about 200 - 300 higher.

When the car was picked up, did they say if it was going to a 'depot' to wait for a hauler? or was it going directly to IL. If the latter is true, 2 weeks is way too long. My guess is they let it set at the terminal for a week or so until they found a truck that is going to IL.

Transport was not an expedite as stated.

We would like to first and foremost apologize if you have received less than satisfactory service from A-1. However, upon reviewing your records, there is absolutely no indication that the service you paid for, was for an expedited transport. In fact, the rate would have been exactly twice as much for such a service, the rate which you booked at .

As far as the "10 day guarantee" transport time which you were alledgedly quoted, we do not guarantee pick up OR delivery dates. While we do our best to service your transport in a timely manner and to be sensitive to your specifications and/or needs, we would never mislead a customer by guaranteeing such a time frame, as would be against company policy.

Again, I apologize for the dismal experience, I sense that miscommunication may have been the main factor here.
