I bought a GMC Jimmy from Abernathy Motors in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on March 17, 2005. They offer "buy here, pay here" financing and a satellite payment reminder system to allow them to finance to everyone. If the payment is over 3 days late, they can remotely shut off the vehicle. That requires you to call them and make a payment arrangment in order to be able to drive your vehicle. A code is manually entered using a small remote control in the vehicle.

Last week, my husband went in to pay our regular payment, and see if we could get the payment schedule changed to coincide with his paydays. He paid $132.60 for 2 weeks. That would put our next payment due on October 9th.

Yesterday, the truck started beeping the way it does if your payment is late. Since I had a payment coupon that stated that my next payment was due on October 9th, I called Abernathy to straighten out the misunderstanding. The woman I spoke to, named Gina, informed me that in order to change our payment schedule, we had to pay an ADDITIONAL $132.60. I informed her that my husband came in on the 27th to pay for 2 weeks, and my next payment was not due till October 9th. She agreed with me on that, but would not deviate from her assertation that we still owed her an extra $132.60 for ONE WEEK when we had just paid for 2 weeks last Wednesday!

I finally had to have my husband call her from WORK. She told him the same thing. Even when he walked her through the logic step by step, she still stubbornly refused to believe him, and even became rude over the phone. She was going to shut the truck off, when we were paid up till Monday! He finally told her that he had heard of Abernathy overcharging people on vehicles, and even reposessing vehicles 4 months after they were paid off. Even if the owner had receipts showing the vehicle paid in full, Abernathy would reposses the vehicle and try to charge them extra for the vehicle they had already paid for!

Gina finally agreed with my husband, and even set up the next payment to be due AFTER he gets paid next, on October 16th. He definitely made her angry, though. She only set up the arrangement after he threatened to call the owner of the dealership and report her rudeness.

Apparently, this is a common practice with this company. I am looking for another vehicle. I will probably take a loss on the Jimmy, but it might be worth it not to have to deal with them anymore!

Abernathy Motors in jonesboro, just repossessed a suv from an expecting mother for it not being in the contract owners possession. It was repoed from an at her first doctors visit. They embarrassed her in front of the whole office. The reason given by tow truck driver stated,Gina(the account manager)said the expecting mom wasnt on the contract. Thats bs! We all know how many college kids get cars that someone else had signed for. I even called west memphis and blythevilles stores and they say what has been done has to be a lie. They dont repo for any other reason beside late payments or no insurance. Neither are the case here. So, you say ya'll bend over backwards to help customers huh? I just typed in gina at abernathy in jonesboro and this site came up. I can type in abernathy in google and multiple lawsuits come up,but ya'll are good people to deal with huh? Laughable!

This complaint is completely unfounded and bordering on slanderous. I have worked for Abernathy Motors for six years and have seen the company help hundreds of customers get vehicles and improve their credit score. We sell approximately 50 cars per month and overall our customers are very satisfied. We do have occassional problems as we sell "used" cars. However, when our customers experience any problems, we bend over backward to help them in any way we can.

As I try to stay familiar with our customers, I am very familiar with the customer that filed the report. Her account was in fact behind when she wanted to change her payment dates. Because we are bank affiliated, we normally require that an account be current before we are able to change the dates. Gina is the Collections Manager, and she came to me asking that we go ahead and help this customer anyway because they were having some financial difficulties. I am so glad this is the way they chose to repay Gina's kindness. By slandering her on the internet.

Also, in line with their slanderous remarks, in the six years that I have worked here, this company has NEVER repossessed a customer whose account was paid in full, and to suggest so, especially without proof is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention that this form of slander is illegal.

Every employee that we have cares about our customers and tries to help them in any way possible. Being that Jennifer is still a current customer of ours and we have tried to help her, we would appreciate it if she could contact our office if she is in need of help instead of publicly falsifying information. Something that could definatly get her in serious legal trouble. As we care about our customers, we wouldn't want to see that happen.

Sincerely,
Office Manager
