In Aug 2006 I bought a new 2006 HHR at Century III Chevrolet. I also purchased an extended warranty from Advantage Plus - PO Box 2970 - Kennesaw, GA 30156
(address on Customer Service Receipt). I received a Customer Service Receipt and was told that all information about the policy would be mailed to me. It was.

Long story short. I traded in the HHR in May 2008 with 18,500 miles on it. I never used the 'Advantage extended warranty'. I faxed Century III the odometer reading
from the HHR to start the cancellation process. I called Century III and asked how much I would be penalized because of the cancellation. She did not know and gave me the number to call Advantage.

I called them and was told that approximately $500.00 would be deducted from the total of $1561.00 that I paid. This folks is a true RIPOFF! I told the finance person at the dealership what I being charged, and he couldn't believe it. He said that most extended warranty companies charge $50.00, or maybe a $100.00 at most.

I read in the policy book about policy cancellation (which you can't read until 3 weeks after buying the car), and it is very vague. No numbers are given. It states that mileage and months are the determining factor. RIPOFF!

What did you expect?

The company did exactly what they should have done. You used a certain portion of the warranty over the course of 2 years and nearly 20,000 miles. It was probably about a 6 year 60,000 warranty. Since you used about a third of it, you only got 2/3 of your premium back.

If you went 2 years without a car accident, would you call your insurance company and ask for a reimbursement of your premiums? You were covered during that period against mechanical failure, of course you should only get a prorated amount back.

Sorry, but that is how any warranty (or insurance company for that matter) would have handled the situation. Think about it.

Advantage/Protective extended car warranty cost me over $500.00 for non use within 16 months!!

Well I got my check from Advantage Extended Car Warranty. It was just over $1000.00. I was charged OVER $500.00 just to have the policy for 18500 miles or 16 months.

Folks... be aware of these policy's. Ask lots of questions, though I doubt that you will get any answers from the person selling the policy. You'll be told that the answers are in the book. When you get the book (in about 3 weeks after the car purchase), there is still no clear answer to the amount of money that will be deducted if you decide to trade that car in..........WOW!!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...

Signed,

The SAP (once again)
