one day my husband and i were at the beach when he got a call on his cell phone. A lady was on the other end and was offering a free vacation, at first my husband said no but then she continued to tell him what a great deal it was and that she already had our account info and that all that she needed us to do would be to verify the account #.

immediately my husband said no and put me on the phone i in turn said no. he then took the phone back and she insisted that she had all of the info in front of her and that it would be at no cost to us. she then gave my husband the last four digits of our banks routing number. and then he gave her the account number never agreeing to any charges.

My husband is in the military and was on temporary duty for a while when i recieved this info in the mail. it then said that my account would be charged 149.95 if i didnt cancel. so naturally i canceled with a confirmation numer and all.

then today i found a charge on my account for 49.95 i looked in to it and it was teliflex. they said that when i cancelled the vacation which i never authorized in the first place it wasnt the teliflex portion that that was separate. i have never heard of teliflex or ever ever authorized them to debit my account.

i called tham today and they threatened to "pull up the tape" i told them go ahead and they could not get me any tape, then they told me that no supervisor was there and if i wanted my money back that i would have to write a refund request to their address. then they told me that nothing could be done over the phone but to call back in 5 days and try and talk to someone then.

i immediately called my bank and they were so great, they suggested that i change my account number to prevent any further charges and they put a watch on my current account. i will contact law enforcement and the other appropriate agencies to try and prevent this happening to any one else.

#6 UPDATE EX-employee responds

You do have options

AUTHOR: Theresa - (U.S.A.)

I use to work there and no we do not have your account number. We get the routing number which is only the electronic address of your bank, any company with Starnet can do it. Now your account information is not provided. You give that to us. The FAM trip does come with 7 days before it is billed and you do have to agree to have it sent out. The teliflex also has to be agreed upon before it is sent out. Sorry for your bad experience, but you should not have given any info over the phone anyway.

They already had the account #.

In response to the above response to this issue, the company that called this topic poster would've been verifying the information they already had, they wouldn't have needed to give the account number again.

I went through a similar issue with this company and when they did the account verification with me, they had my routing and account number correct... so even if this consumer would've not given the account number and only said "yes that's my account number" they most likely would've still processed the charges, as they have done with many others.

Teliflex is a bad, bad company and I urge anyone who ever receives offers from them to immediately delcine the offer, request to be removed from their system, and advise the Teliflex rep to never call them again.

Gave your bank account number

AUTHOR: Leroy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 02, 2005

You gave them your bank account number - why? The routing number belongs to the bank, every financial institution has its own routing number, it is not your personal routing number. The scam artist just picks one or two of the largest banks in your area and says they know YOUR routing number but all they know is the BANK'S routing number.

If someone knocked on your front door and they were in rags and gave some c**k-n-bull story would you give them your bank account number. I think not.

Simple rule - never give your bank account number to ANYONE on the telephone unless YOU CALL THEM. And anytime you are asked to confirm a number tell the caller to give it to you and you will tell them if it is correct or not. NEVER GIVE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER ON THE TELEPHONE.
