After my Jeep Patriot broke down and brought it to Litchfield Chrysler in Litchfield, MN, one of the service help inquired for me to Alpha warranty to see coverage. Alpha said they would not cover because of the TCU (which was told to me most warranties cover this anyway)... After the repairs were made, it was found that it was the Valve Body that failed (a part covered under this warranty), but after talking to the rep again, he told me it would still NOT be covered because of the initial inquiry.
I have no record of any conversation about a TCU, nor does my hard copy detailed receipt show ANYTHING about a TCU, therefore telling me that this warranty company is responsible for this repair at $0 deductible as stated in my contract meaning that Alpha warranty services owes me $2154.51.

TCU Simply Not Listed for Coverage

We are disappointed to hear that this customer is frustrated with their recent claim. It appears there may be some confusion on what actually failed on the vehicle. On September 23rd, it was reported by the customer’s repair facility that the check engine light was on and that the cause of the light was the failure of the transmission control unit (TCU).
This customer purchased a stated component contract meaning that every component covered is specifically listed in the service contract. Unfortunately for this customer, the TCU is not a listed component on this plan. We do have other coverage options that do cover the TCU but this particular plan does not.
The customer mentioned that they are aware of a failure to the valve body. The valve body was NOT reported to our claims department. We reviewed the recorded calls and verified this. The TCU is the computer that controls the solenoids on the valve body which means that replacing the TCU would affect changes on the valve body but they are very different components.
If for some reason, the repair facility found the valve body to have failed, we encourage you to call us back to review the claim for coverage. We definitely want our customers to receive the coverage that they have purchased. Please call in if your repair facility found something different so we can further investigate this issue. Problems such as these are best handled by contacting our customer service team so we can address these issues quickly.
We regret her frustration but wish to point out that these complaints filed online amount to less than .001% of all service contracts that we provide. We have an A+ rating with the BBB and have been chosen as a top service contract provider by several companies.
