I contracted A.M. Contracting of NY Corp to brickpoint and waterproof my house's 3 exterior walls, to replace 4 window lintels, to replace a drainage pipe, and to attach covers over 2 attic vents.  The company president, Mr. Anjum Masnoon told me he was a professional with 30 years of experience.  He promised to do an excellent job and remove all work related debris.  He guaranteed his work for 15 years.  He and I agreed on a price of $5000.  He and I signed a contract and I gave him $1400 downpayment.  In the contract he promised to grind between every brick, top to bottom, to a depth of 1/2 inch.  His men ground one whole wall and began applying cement.  Upon returning from work, I apporached the wall to check on the progress and discovered they had only ground to 1/4 inch, missed grinding many bricks, and damaged nearly 40 bricks.  About 5 % of the wall was very sloppily cemented.  The cement was applied with uneven lines, protruding ridges, and uneven color.  My fence and grounds were covered with cement droppings due to their sloppiness.  I immediately told them to stop applying cement.  I called Mr. Masoon and expressed my dissatisfaction.  He came over and became very defensive.  I asked him why the walls were not ground to 1/2 inch as promised in the contract and why the cement was so poorly applied.  He then became nasty.  He pulled his men off the job and left.  I called and asked him to return to repair the unsatisfactory wall and resume grinding to 1/2 inch.  He said he would need more money and a new contract.  I refused.  Days later he returned with his men and began taking down his scafolding.  I implored him to repair the wall and finish the job.  He refused.  I demanded a refund.  He refused to issue a refund.  I now have an imcomplete, exposed wall with terrible cement, roughly 40 damaged bricks, and a cement covered fence and grounds.  I am also out $1400 which Mr. Masnoon refuses to refund.

Still Unresolved/Still Unreliable/Not to be Trusted for Hire

AUTHOR: nydeco - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 30, 2013

A full year has passed since I had my problem with A.M. Contracting Corp of NY.  They had been hired and paid to brickpoint my house.  After doing an unsatisfactory job of grinding out the old mortar, they began sloppily applying new mortar.  It appeared very uneven and in different shades of gray.  When I complained to the company owner, Mr. Masnoon, he became defensive and demanded even more money.

I, of course, refused standing by the terms of our contract.  He walked off the job, refusing to issue a refund, and leaving me with a partially exposed, partially cemented wall.  I pleaded with him over two months to honor our contract but he refused.  I contacted the Better Business Bureau and Channel 11 News.  I had to go on National TV to force him to give me a refund.  He agreed to give me a partial refund but refused to pay for the more than 80 bricks his men damaged.

I had to hire another contracter to replace the bricks, and start the brickpointing job from scratch.  At this point I am done with the job but I am out the $680 it cost me to replace the damaged bricks.  Surprisingly, Mr. Masnoon contacted me a month ago and promised to bring me the $680.  I am still waiting and feel certain he will never pay me the $680 he still owes me.  Be smart, stay away from him and A.M. Contracting.

I had a good experience with AM Contracting

I was aware of the complaint but I got a sense that Mr. Masnoon was a decent and honest contractor and he gave me a thorough written estimate of the repair work needed & came back to do a second estimate when another contractor said the lintels needed ot be repaired as well, so my needed job was very similar job to what the complainant wanted to be done. Fortunately, my experience was more positive. I love the job they did...my backwall has never looked better..smooth brick color stucco with contrasting cream for the lintel and bottom third of the wall. And to finish the effect they also pro-actively painted the wrong ironed gate and railing as well as the concrete porch. Also, did an extra job of rebuilding the walkway concrete stairs that the vines had wrecked over the years. So, yes, it was a mess while they were working but they cleaned up afterwards..although I will have to re-sod the lawn....But, I would recommend them without reservation.
