American Benefit Services Free Government Grant, never pay back, postcard Sarasota Florida

A green postcard arrives, saying I may be eligible for a "Free Government Grant of $5000 or more. This is not a LOAN! You need never pay back a Government Grant!" An 800 # and the hours to call.

I call and am told that for $299 plus s&h, they will send out a package with their program and forms to fill out and if they cannot find me a grant or a loan of at least $5000 they will refund the $299 less the s&h.

I ask what the odds or percentages are that there will definitely be a grant available and not just loans (which I knew was where the 'scam' came in to play). And of course there is no guarantee and couldn't possibly know until I paid and filled out all the forms that would be sent in the package.

But I protest, 'your postcard here, says nothing about 'loans'!? I can go to my town and get a loan for at least $5000 and it wouldn't cost me $300.
I'm interested in a grant, that I don't have to repay. I'd be happy to pay you $300 for a $5000 grant, I'd be happy to pay you $5000 for a $50,000 grant, so I think you should at least be able to promise me a grant after I pay.'

His answer; 'So I guess you looking for a guarantee that you will get a grant?'
yes
'Well we can't help you'

I'd somehow like to see this business out of business and warn others not to pay them any money. We need to get the word out about this company and others like them.
