This adds to other reports you have on this subject.  I rented a car from Hertz in Baltimore Washington International Airport which happened to be equipped with a plate pass/ EZ pass transponder.  Used it to go through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel twice (1 round trip).  Posted toll is $2.00 each way.  Received a charge of $12.00 from American Traffic Solutions.  Expected toll to be added to my Hertz bill.  Hertz forwarded by credit card number to American traffic Solutions without my authorization.  Nothing in the rental contract indicated that this would be done and no consent was given  by me. There was no indication by Hertz that this equipment would be provided in the car and nothing as to the terms of its use or that they would charge me 3 times the posted toll for using it. Currently disputing with the credit card company.

If you rent a car from Hertz, DO NOT use the transponder and insist that it be removed. This is a ripoff.

Help To Read Sometimes

Just an FYI, people need to learn how to read before they sign to anything regardless of what you are signing for.

Most people upon signing a rental agreement are more or less in a rush to just "sign and get in the car." They don't read the fine print which consists of the pulp of the agreement.

When signing the agreement with Hertz or Advantage, you consent (here comes the part where people need to read first) you DO consent to the charges incurred during the course of your rental. All the administrative fees and processing fees if a violation occurs during the rental. But, you don't see that because you just sign and drive off without lookig at the big picture. Think-- if a violation occurs, who is responsible? Not Hertz, they weren't driving. YOU were. So, how are you not even thinking about that.

And EZ Pass is not just a transponder; it's plate based as well. So, good luck ripping off the equipment and riding around illegally with no plates.

Moral of the story is to read before sign--ANYTHING.
