My daughter's 7 mo old male kitten was attacked by dogs @ 5:30pm on 4-30-10. It was given to her by 1st bf & her 1st animal that was hers. I went to Banfield in Petsmart, but they don't have overnight care, so reffered us to AM/PM Animal Hospital on S Lamar. AM/PM refused to treat unless I had $2000 on credit card or $500 cash, even though they supposedly care about animals, I think that in itself tells you what they really care about! Paige was working the counter.  I called Banfield back I told them what was going on. They said AM/PM use to give pet credits or take pymts. They are not going to refer anymore. We then took kitten to Ben White Animal Hospital, but they were swamped & recommend Emergency Animal Hospital. Banfield, Ben White Animal Hospital & Emergency Animal Hospital all said they've heard many complaints like mine about AM/PM. There are also several bad reviews about them online. We lost the kitten, but Emergency Animal Hospital put it on O2, IV, gave pain meds, thoroughly examined & put him down, plus treated my daughter with up most respect & dignity for less then $200 with payment options. MOST importantly, it was all about caring for the animal & my daughter's feelings, not one word about money until the end!! We don't need places like this in a caring city such as Austin, so I for one am spreading the word and reporting to every agency I can! I understand completely the American way of greed, money & power, but certain professions you do for the love of it, not the money! I also don't see why I could go to jail or even prison if I abused or mistreated an animal, but places like this can cause the animal to actually die because of money & nothing happens to them?! After the great experiences @ Banfield, Ben White & Emergency, I know AM/PM is not the industry standard, rather @ the bottom of it!
To be fair, I did call AM/PM this afternoon to get the name of Paige and spoke with person who was there that night. Apparently the Vet had looked @ kitten & he was given O2, but no one ever told me that, only spoke to Paige, who only wanted money. Was also told that it's not their policy to ask for CC with $2000 on it or $500 cash, but do require $300 deposit. But it is funny how looking through other complaints, they told others same thing and same amounts, weird, if not a policy?! I'm just saying if you love your animals, but aren't rich, don't go to AM/PM Animal Hospital. Banfield in Petsmart off Brodie, Ben White Animal Hospital & Emergency Animal Hospital behind Cavender's are Outstanding & truly do it for the love of animals!!
