NBC Universal follows up on breeder posing as non-profit rescue selling sick puppies, grossly misrepresented puppies, and in some cases failing to even send puppies that were purchased.

An area puppy dealer has admitted to stealing from her customers across the country. NBC-13 reported the story of Barbara Back and her business selling puppies from her Fort Payne home over the Internet back in December 2004. Some of the dogs lived in small crates attached to an outdoor storage room.

There were reports that customers received sick puppies, the wrong puppy and sometimes no puppy at all.

Back was charged with nine counts of theft by deception and 14 months later she has pled guilty. She was sentenced to two years probation

By pleading guilty she avoids a jury trial, which was set to start Monday.

Each of the nine counts to which she pled guilty stem from individual customer complaints. Many wanted their money back.

A restitution hearing is set for April.

DO NOT support this venture. One red flag is the use of aliases, different business locations, and sound-alikes. She is also selling pups on www.nextdaypets.com - do a search for Cavalier King Charles and find listing under "Boston, Alabama, MA" to lead people to think this is a national venture. Seller also lists "Brandi and Ted" as business contact. Some try to fool people by using names that are very similar to those of well-known charities or popular legitimate ventures. This has ALREADY been done in this case - more than once...

I hope she doesn't just change her d/b/a name and continue on as before!
