Last month I bought a 2005 Ford Ranger Pickup from AutoFair and last week the handle to open the back tailgate latch fell off in my hand. Yesterday the check engine light goes off anf continues to be lit up. I called the dealership and they said I should have bought the extended warranty because now they have to charge me to see what's wrong with it. I received a letter from a manager from AutoFair about 2 weeks ago thanking me for my purchase and to "be free to let me know how your buying experience was because at AutoFair they feel word of mouth is the best advertising". So I call the manager telling him that after 5 weeks I don't think this car should be falling apart and he tells me basically, tough sh1t. You should have bought the extended warranty on a 2005 car. The salesman was pushy and as he's selling me the car he's making these promises which when it came time to sign the deal....dissapear. I will now become a walking billboard of bad publicity for these people and send everyone I know looking for a car in a different direction.

Seeing as how they lied about the car, why would you believe them about this. Fact is, most of these "extended warranties" (actually service contracts) sold by used car dealers aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Buying one just means you have even less money when it comes time to pay repair bills.
What you really should have done was to take the truck to a reputable mechanic and had it inspected BEFORE you bought it. This would include putting it on a diagnostic machine to ensure that the dealer hadn't reset the check engine light.
Since dealers sell used cars "as is", and you have to sign a paper to that effect, you know that anything that comes up after you drive away is your problem. It only makes sense to ignore whatever the salesman says and get an independent opinion on the condition of the vehicle.
