I signed up to be a Rep. for Avon on Feb. 26, 2009. I have not made a dime even though I have had only TWO SALES. I purchased about $100 of products and samples and catalogues to help me with the business. But, once the girl who signed me up explained about being an "e" Rep and the fee with that. I declined. I never fail for the free website part. It was my first eye opener that something isn't right here. The girl that recruited me worked at my school as a teacher and she would sell us a lot of Avon. The told me she was making enough money to pay for her new car note and she had just started last December 2008. I believed her; she was a co-worker but I failed to see that she was a teacher and was definitely making her car note with her income from her current job!!! Her job was the front for the success that she made people believe that she was doing.
I continued to place all of my catalogues out and about. My friends said that they would buy from me. But, they never did. Some wanted to buy from me just to help me out. That didn't work. I only made two sales to this date!!!
Bottom line, Avon is using Reps. (sign-up is $10) for free advertising and marketing of their products. The Reps. find the customers and get them "HOOKED" to the products. Then Avon comes behind them and tell them they can call and order without an Avon Rep. Once a customer has been identified, with address and name and phone number, Avon will continue to do business with them and send them out catalogues for FREE. The Reps. had to pay for the catalogues and then Avon moves the Rep out of the way by having them owe for products, website fees, and not earn commission due to a sliding scale for commission. 20% to 50% based on order size.
They have great products but they should just pay people to work in a store and sell them. Plus I found out that all the people that I left books to, can simple call 1-800-500-2866 and order Avon products directly over the phone without an Avon Rep. THIS UNDER CUTS THE REPS ATTEMPT TO MAKE MONEY ON THESE SALES. The teacher that signed me up did not even know this herself. So, do all the research that you need to do before working for any homebase company. I thought I knew Avon well enough. They have been around for a long, long time. I thought they would have been on the up and up.
BOY, DID I WASTE MY TIME!! So, If you like Avon products, just call the 1-800-500-2866 and buy straight from them without allowing Avon to exploit a Rep., who have probably done all that they could to make a sale with you.
TOO MANY COMPANIES ARE STILL EXPLOITING AND RAPING ITS EMPLOYEES, AND IF AVON WANTS TO BE REAL SUCCESSFUL, THEY CAN OPEN A STORE AND HIRE AVON SALESPEOPLE AND GIVE THEM AN HOURLY RATE PLUS COMMISSION. THAT WOULD BE THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
Oh, one of my associates that I approached about selling Avon, told me that she use to do it, but Avon kept missing up her orders, by shipping her the wrong stuff, and missing items. She had to stop selling. It was not profitable for her. THEY WILL MESS UP YOUR ORDER IN ORDER TO RUIN YOUR SUCCESS---that doesn't seem to make any sense, but she told me that whenever she placed orders, her shipments would come back empty, etc. and she owed Avon for products that she never got!!!!
AND TO THINK THAT AVON TELL WOMEN IN THEIR ADS TO TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR LIVES BY JOINING AND MAKING EXTRA MONEY. WOW!!! SUZE ORMAN AND THE FAT CATS REALLY GET OVER BIG ON THE LITTLE PEOPLE. MAYBE, WOMEN SHOULD STOP SUPPORTING AVON ALTOGETHER. THEY HAVE MADE IT BIG NOW AND THEY DON'T NEED REPS. TO SELL THEIR STUFF, JUST GO ONLINE OR CALL AND ORDER!!!
BOY, WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never experienced this from Avon

First off, Avon Values their hard working reps. I am an independent sales rep and I never heard nor experienced what is being reported here. Some new rep thinks if you sell Avon you don't have to do a thing and money will come flooding in. It doesn't work that way. Let m,e explain why Avon has reps and site where people can just buy online. While the Avon site provides great customer service, An Avon independent Rep should be accessible, knowledgable and provide outstanding customer service.
My customers know they can call me for questions, concerns, fundraising needs, reminders of when to restock and understand their needs. Let say you buy cosmetics from a dept store cosmetic counter. you need to go and buy more? will you get the same sale person who sold it to you originally. If after you use the product for the month and didn't like the results, can you credit /replacement or express your concerns or effectlively answer you questions? A good Avon rep undestands the products, has gone through training, which i believe is incredible. They have tons of resource materials as well.
The online store is there for a resaon. for those who don't want a rep, and when a rep stops selling they can still get their product. Being an Avon Rep I am in business for myself. I can take a brouchure and offer additional saving on a product or product line. I run raffles, frequent buyer offering and so on. I also am an eRep. I do raffles for them adn they lot it. Avon added Live chat for their reps to help them to connect their online customers.
As for having to buy brouchures and samples, this is just like any other business. You have to invest some capital to build a business. This is basic business. Avon have been around 125 years and is doing quite well. and I have alot of fun selling it.

Avon can't steal customers

I have been a Rep for Avon two times now.
At no time do you have to give your customers information to Avon. They are "Your" customers. There is no way for them to steal your customers unless they themselves choose to do their shopping with Avon directly.
When the customer shops at your website, they can choose to have it shipped to them, or to you to deliver. At no time is it necessary for you to make your customers shop at your website.
As far as missing products, their system is highly automated and sometimes items do not drop in the box and a simple phone call to customer service will get it to you.
A person can open up a storefront to sell Avon. They have guidelines and details can be found at Avon. I can actually see the sales of one of out local stores in our district and they do very well.
Selling Avon is like any other sell from home business. It is what you make it. You can't be angry if people you know personally don't wish to buy the products.
Since you enjoy the products so much yourself (don't you?) just buy something for yourself every 3rd campaign and get a great discount, use the single brochure they send you to sell out of. Make the best of it.
Some people really like the shop at home personal sales.
It is not a system without fails, but feedback will make it better. I see a big difference from now and 7 years ago.

Avon Stealing Customers - A Load of Bunk
AUTHOR: LeilaK - (United States of America)

To start off, I am not employed by Avon but I am an Avon Independent Sales Representative. There IS a difference. I am in business for myself and that being the case I try to educate myself regarding business practices.
This claim of Avon stealing your customers is ridiculous! The ERep sites have your (the reps) personal web address and you (the rep) get the credit for every order made on that site. If you didn't get an Erep webpage and your customers wanted to order online then you have no one else to blame but yourself for giving them no choice but to go through Avons website directly!
I really dislike someone not knowing what they're doing because they haven't been trained properly and didn't bother reading the online courses and then turn around and blame Avon.
Anyone who thinks a company messes up your order on purpose to ruin your success has obviously had very little experience in product distibution and much more in conspiracy theories. Stocking and shipping errors happen in every company and if you keep your head they can be managed.
Being an Avon Sales Rep is a business. Not everyone is business-like or business-headed. This isn't a get rich quick scheme, it is hard work and you get out of it what you put in.
That being said, I hope people will perhaps consider their own actions before they blame a company that has been around; I dare say, much longer than yourself.

Disappointed former customer.

Avon, it seems, has turned into some sort of MLM monster. It was not this way twenty or thirty years ago.
When employees need to buy the products, the catalogues, the samples, find a "downline" and find a certain amount of customers *or else*, then my choice is not to do business with them. I feel bad for all the people who have not been successful with this company.
What makes me suspicious however, are all the ones who "claim" they are making big $$$. Their favorite argument is that the ones who couldn't make a go of it are failures, and could not be successful because of their own shortcomings. This is typical rhetoric spouted by people who have been brainwashed by the MLM machine. Believe me, I don't care how successful you *think* you are, if you screw up once, Avon would drop you like a hot potato, too!
My own representative was screwed by this company. She's disabled, and signed up to sell because she was assured that she could sell online exclusively. They claimed she hadn't had any sales (which is a lie!) and dropped her without explanation. That's when we started investigating the Rip Off Reports about this company, and how they treat their less productive employees.
To further Avon's insatiable appetite to make a buck, they are outsourcing their customer service to another country. Perhaps the economy in America would get better if these companies put more faith in America. Keep jobs in America so people can afford to buy your overpriced products!
Nope, no more Avon products in my house!

HERE IS THE RIPOFF: MAKE A BOAT LOAD OF SALES AND IF YOU DON'T KEEP IT UP, AVON KEEPS THE CUSTOMERS YOU HAVE FOUND!!!!

WHERE IS THE RIP OFF? IT IS IN THE BOAT LOAD OF SALES YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE IN THIS slow economy. Once people buy from you, you may not get another sale from them for 3 to 4 weeks later. You must make a sell every two weeks with Avon to stay active. Small orders like $15 to $30 aren't any "real" money to talk about. Plus, you don't get but 20% from the items in the brochures with the diamonds by it. A LOUSY 20% ON THE JEWELRY, CLOTHING , SHOES AND BAGS, ETC. THEY KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET PEOPLE TO BUY AND TO MAKE A DECENT SIZE PURCHASE!!!!!!!!! To make good money off the back, you will need to start out with 12 committed people who REALLY LOVES AVON'S STUFF. Then you will have a pool of people to rotate between as you gain more customers if YOU CAN!!!
I must stay on a constant run and search for new customers, in order to make a sale EVERY TWO WEEKS FOR EACH CAMPAIGN--if not, I'll be dropped. But, once people get "hooked" to Avon products, will they need you? NO!!! If I get dropped for lack of sales that I "can't force people to buy" then the existing customers can just go online or call the 1-800 number and get the Avon products without a Rep. BUT, REMEMBER, THOSE ARE THE CUSTOMERS THAT YOU BROUGHT TO AVON AND NOW THEY WON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE!!
That's the real rip off here: No rep is needed and the reps must sell a boat load of products to see some adequate money. And I have to pay Avon every two weeks for the Avon orderS (not once a month). I can't miss two campaigns without making an order, but if things are slow , what can I do---the rep. whines up buying stuff, just to stay active. I'm trying to make money. I stay on the go seeking new customers, and time is MONEY. Its not fair. If I don't place an order in two campaigns , then all the people who have bought from me will lose me as a Rep and can simply go around me and get the Avon products online or by calling toll free.
The rep would have turned the customers onto Avon products and would have made sells for Avon and once the Rep can't KEEP buying Avon products (just to stay active in between slow selling periods) she gets dropped!! JUST LIKE THAT!!
How would you feel if the customers you turned on to Avon just calls in toll free and order Avon without going through you? Avon makes if REAL EASY for the customers to come straight to them , once you have identified a customer. Do you think they will tell a customer that they CAN'T ORDER PRODUCTS WITHOUT A REP??????????????? If you don't keep up your sales, Avon WILL KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS AND ITS MORE MONEY FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY WONT HAVE TO PAY YOU A SMALL COMMISSION.

You state you've been selling Avon for less than a month, only made 2 sales and you've been ripped off? Where? How?
