In Feb. of 2008 I inquired online about a 2007 Ford F-150 and was contacted by Kathy Peterson in Internet sales to schedule an appointment to come in and look at my options. Upon arrival all was great and I began to get a comfortable feeling about how the process was working.(Big Mistake) After a few minutes of talk with Kathy about employment and credit we ventured out to the lot to drive the truck. We walked around several times and could not find the truck. This is not a huge lot mind you. So we head back in and she goes to her "BOSS" and says we must look on the overflow lot.
I thought ok lets go, well we had to use my vehicle to drive about three blocks away and drive through this lot of vehicles that had seen better days. After about fifteen minutes there we ventured to the service lot to look there and again no sucess. I began getting irratated but was still giving her the benefit of the doubt. After about an hour of looking and excuses we return to the dealership. I was informed that the vehicle must have been sold or one of the salesman must have taken it home for the evening. I should have left then but was convinced to look further. We returned to the lot and began looking again. This time I settled on a 2007 Ford Explorer.
The vehicle was clean and fully loaded, I couldnt pass it up. So wwe sit down to go over the final details for financing and here the trouble begins. We had already gone over what my bottom line was and had dealt with all the back and forth beforehand.(So I thought). Kathy comes to me with a piece of paper with three different figures on it none of which were what we discussed previously. I was told that "this is what my manager can do" and asked which one I could do. Well we went back and forth for a while and I had decided it was time to go. Kathy then runs off for a second and says ok we can do this and gives me one more offer verry close to what I was wanting in the beginning.
Now I sit at 9:00p.m. waiting for the finance manager to draw up the paperwork. This was probably the least painful part of the whole ordeal. We begin signing paperwork and I was informed that the banks were closed for the evening but my finance company would most likely be Capitol One. This struck me as unusual but hey ok she is the finance manager she knows more about this than I do. After about fifteen minutes of paperwork I get the keys for the Explorer and we shake hands. Im thinking hey a little painful but finally done......NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!
I received a phonecall from the finance department stating all is well with financing, Capitol One called and went through the terms to confirm and informed me my statement would arrive shortly. Well a month goes by and nothing from Capitol One, but The finance manager does call and says there has been a hiccup in the paperwork and I needed to return to the dealership for a few to redo parts of it. So I take off work and head back over. I sit down with the finance manager and was informed that financing could not be secured and I would have to find another vehicle.
I am baffled at this point and inform her that I had spoken with Capitol One and had it all set up. Her response was "ya well things changed and we couldnt get it done". I am in awe of the rudeness and carelessness that was demonstrated towards me. So I agree to look again mostly out of spite. I was greeted by a different salesman this time and almost as if it were planned I was shown a Red 2005 Ford Five Hundred. The car looked great and was relatively clean. After the test drive we did the paperwork and set up a time to come in and have the front bumper re-pinned in place(was the only problem with the car).
So the bumper was repaired and I thought all is well. Again another mistake. Not more than three weeks later I again receive a call and was informed again that financing could not be secured. This time my wife went to the dealership with me and we sat down and were told that unless we could come up with at least 2000 down we could not do the deal. I was becoming very upset as was my wife. We decided fine just give me my trade back and you can have your car back and we part ways. It wasnt that easy, They had already sold my car to a wholesaler before financing was even secured. (Last time I checked this was a violation of Fed and State law)
After a screaming match with the (Special Financing Salesman) we tossed the keys in his lap and walked out. We had been told that it would cost us over 5,000 just to walk away from the car and I would not get my trade back, due to the fact they no longer owned it. We left the dealership and were going to go to a different one to look. The salesman then began calling my phone and trying to intimidate me with threats of being sued for breach of contract. At this point I informed him that he was in the wrong and that I would be calling an attorney due to the fact I was expected to pay for the time I had the car and that my trade was sold before financing was secured.
He then asked if he could call me back in about ten minutes. When he called back he said that we could get the financing done and that I needed to return to complete the paperwork. Reluctantly I did and finally financing magically was approved although a little more than I wanted to pay but it was close enough.
I have owned the car now for just over a year and it has been fairly reliable and good. I recently renewed my plates and discovered that the purchase price was only 4,500. My paperwork shows just over 16,000, I called the dealership and was given the run around again and was told that the DMV was the source of the problem. I really dont trust them on this issue and am sure the numbers were changed after the fact to get rid of the car and myself. The Title Clerk Desiree at Freeway Ford stated that they sent in the same paperwork that I have and that its more than likely a typo on the DMV's behalf. My suspicion level is high and feel like I have been screwed on the whole deal.
The bottom line is DO NOT under any circumstances do business with this place!!!! They will lie, cheat, and threaten you when doing business. They will deceive you and play the smoke and mirrors game till you succomb!!!!! I wish I would have followed up on the whole selling my trade before financing issue in hopes to shut them down!!!
DO NOT EVER GO THERE!!!!!
