Bargain Shoppers Express - Sylvia Walsh - Andrew Briant Unsolicited Employment Scam Hickory North Carolina

My wife received a check for $4,770.00 and a letter from Bargain Shoppers express. The company was supposedly offering employment as a "secret shopper" with crazy instructions on where and how to spend the money after the check was deposited into her checking account. The letter stated that if Sylvia Walsh was not contacted immediately a stop payment would be automatically issued on the check.

The envelope was mailed from Canada, it had no return address and the stamp cancellation on the envelope was illegible. Although the letter was mailed from Canada, the company named Bargain Shoppers Express had a Hickory, North Carolina address. The check for $4,770.00 was written on the account of a small company in Port Arthur, Texas. The telephone numbers appeared to be to Canadian cell phones.

I called the Port Arthur company to advise them of the check. The lady to whom I spoke immediately said that it was a scam and that their company had received a number of calls from people in California, Michigan and other states who had phony checks written on their company's old bank account by Bargain Shoppers Express. She said I was the first person to call from Texas.
