My husband I bought a puppy on friday, took her to their recommended vet on tuesday, and thought everything was perfectly fine. However I didnt get a good vibe from their vet so we went to my in-laws vet and he found out she has giardia. She is now on medication.
I did some research on the notice of rights and her illness. On the notice of rights there is a Callifornia Health and Safety code they make you sign in reference to the health of your puppy. I looked up the code online, it is not the same and it doesnt say anything about intestinal parasites or worms which is what she has. I called yesterday and got handed off. I am calling today to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, the poor little dog in the kennel with mine most likely has it too, and she will be sold and told that she is a healthy puppy.
Unfortunately this same thing happened to my mother in law, and she had tons of vet bills to pay, we didnt think the same thing could happen twice from the same place. It was naive but when you fall in love with a puppy, it doesnt matter. Please do not even look in here, your chances are extremely high of a very sick little puppy.

I also purchased a puppy a few weeks ago from Barkworks. She too has intestinal parasites. Barkworks was very clear with me that she should be checked right away for parasites as she likely would have something or other. She did and she took some medicine. Her poop is now clear. This is completely normal. Almost 80% of puppies have some parasite. Their young imune systems just don't fight it off. I was actually just checking for complaints to see of there were any. The fact that there are so few about a company that has several stores and sells so man pets is actually quite amazing.
Although I didn't set out to get a pet store dog, my puppy is fantastic. I love her and have no issues spending an extra couple hundred dollars on her care. If you can't affors parasite medication you can't afford a dog. They need to be spayed, get shots, get bones and toys. Dogs and children don't come cheap. Just love your puppy and move on.
