After trying to sell my car through traditional channels, I did a websearch for the term "Sell My Car".

Big Bucks Auto was the first entry on the Google Search Result.

I called and spoke to Jose. After a brief description of my vehicle I was quoted a price. I was told that I would have to bring my vehicle in so they could take a look at it. I inquired about the accuracy of the quote, and was told that I would receive the amount I was quoted as long as the car was as described. I was very excited to have found Big Bucks Auto.

Big Bucks Auto is located on Northern Blvd, in Queens, in a pretty run down building that looks like it might have been a car dealership at one point.

I started to feel apprehensive about going in.

I went in and met with Jose. This is where the transaction got very ugly. After only a very cursory inspection, I was offered exactly THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED dollars less for my car, than I was quoted just two hours prior on the phone. Naturally I was infuriated, as I just drove all the way from Manhattan to Big Bucks Auto in Queens.

There was no explanation for this offer, I knew right away I had been victimized by a BAIT and SWITCH SCHEME.

My car was a late model vehicle, low mileage, and garage-kept, in short there was very little left to interpretation. The mileage was actually LOWER than what I indicated on the phone to JOSE.

I stated that I was leaving, and immediatley, was told I had to wait to speak to someone else. Since I was already there I waited, only to be further insulted by a higher up at Big Bucks Auto.

This was absolutely, hands down the worst experience I have ever had.

I would not recommend that anyone go to Big Bucks Auto, they are completely untrustworthy.

To make matters even worse the sales person JOSE, had the nerve to be very inappropriate with me. Disgusting.

Hi K,

Thank you for the very detailed transcription of your version of the experience in our sales room. The key phrase to note in your story though is as long as the car was as described.

We have not been able to stay successful in business of buying used cars for many years by overpaying people for their used cars. If we were bound to all the verbal and email quotes we made before actually inspecting a vehicle, there would be no way that we could stay in business. And really, our business is to buy your used cars. We dont make anything by turning folks away.

We have done extensive research and education for consumers on how Kelley Blue Book values are very misleading. We keep abreast on both customer and industry trends so we are in the know. And we have had to become accustom to people thinking that their vehicles are in much better shape than they really are. Its almost like some kind of blindness or denial, but we have found that very often, people are not able to see the scratches and dents and other common signs of wear on their own vehicles. Perhaps it is just the new trained set of eyes, but there are times that indeed, the verbal quote MUST decrease when we are able to physically inspect the car. On the flip side, though rarer, we have also offered people MORE than the original quote. Obviously, that was not the case with your vehicle.

Of course, we are sorry that you were disappointed. It might even be safe to say that this was almost a self fulfilling prophecy since you didnt like the looks of us coming in. That you were uncomfortable and unhappy was also very clear which was why Jose did find a supervisor to conform what he knew to be true: the offer could not be altered no matter how much you wanted it to be. Maybe this too is why your car did not sell though traditional means. But again, we would much rather buy your car then have you leave.

The bottom line is that we are the business of buying used cars and a quote is just that: a quote. When a customer brings in the car and we can inspect it, then we are able to give you a firm offer. There is not bait and no switch and you left with what you came with. The only thing truly invested was time and we both lost on that front, but as our mother used to say Nothing ventured, nothing gained and if coming to Queens and not selling your car is the worst experience you have ever had, then thats a pretty good life, but still, we wish we could have come to a better conclusion for us all.

Here's hoping to better times,

Big Bucks Auto
