On April 5, 2007, I was informed by Advance Employment that Blodgett store 157 would no longer require my services, as I was observed sitting in my car, near the front door, when I was supposed to be inside.
Now, normally, you'd think this was a no-no. However, the person who trained me (nephew of the manager) had sat in his car to smoke for most of the two years he worked there. And he never got fired. I had to sit down somewhere.
I'm 51, and my back bothers me from time to time, and the only place I had to sit inside the store was on two stacked, upturned plastic milk crates. This did not take the pressure off my back.
I later found out he told others that I had been sleeping in my car. This is an out right lie. He was actually looking for an excuse to dump me, so he could give 40 hours a week to an employee who came back looking to get her old job (my job at the time) back.
The same day she started, I was fired after my shift was over. The said part, he couldn't even tell me to my face. He did everyone else he fired before me, but he couldn't look me in the eyes and tell me. Nor did he even ask me about why I was sitting in my car.
While I would do business again with any other store, I will not make any purchases from this station ever again. I ask everyone else to please do the same, if at all possible.

I would like to amend my report. I have recently found out the situation is not exactly what I thought it was at first.
Apparently the president of the company saw the video tape and jumped to the conclusion he did, at someone else's instigation. My informants tell me the person who told him was the assistant manager. It's been well known that she's been angling for the manager's job, and I really should have known better. (She is a master at back stabbing.)
My request to those of you who read this, and live in the Lansing area is this. IF you normally buy Shell oil, I ask that you buy ONLY at the Blodgett Shell located at Creyts and St. Joseph Highway. And if you get a chance, TELL them why.
