These people called my direct line at my office asking more my first name with my step-father's last name (a name I've never used as an adult). They claim that I owe over $1000 from some encyclopedia purchase in 1988. Then they tried to switch and say that it was a loan or a loan in order to purchase encyclopedias.

First of all, in 1988 I was 17 years old so if anyone gave credit to a minor they were stupid. Second of all, My parents bought me encyclopedias when I was about 15 so why would I go buy more? Thirdly, I'm 33 years old now - even if any of this baloney were actually true, 1988 was 16 years ago and I'm sure the statute of limitations has expired - more than twice over!

When I tried to explain these things to "Debbie" there, she was very rude and yelled at me about not paying my bills and hung up on me. Didn't hear from them again until yesterday and I almost lost it I was so hot!

You see, what kills me is that these people know my name (I slipped and told them my actual last name the first time they called and tricked me by using my step-dad's last name- but they don't know the spelling) . Also, they know my ENTIRE SS# (not just the last four digits). They also had my former home address from about 2 years ago AND my date of birth.

I calle Debbie back to tell her that I found all kinds of scam info on the net about her company and that she should not waste her money calling probably from Jamaica because I wasn't giving them a single penny and she again got very rude and then I hung up on her - but before I did, I told her if she ever calls me again that I'm calling the police. I plan on doing that anyway. That totally freaks me that these folks have my SS#.
