I have been faithfully paying premiums since the initiation of my Capital One account in 2002. I called Payment Protection to make my July 18th, 2008 payment and was told by the operator that I was calling too soon, and that I needed to call within 10 days of the payment due date.
On July 15th, 2008 I called to place the request for the one-time emergency payment and was told that they could not make the payment because I didn't call 5-days before the payment was due. After arguing with several of their agents, I called Capital One and one of their agents got onto the telephone with me and Payment Protection. Payment Protection even denied Capital Ones request to honor the policy. I am sending a demand letter to the Payment Protection agency and demanding that they cancel the policy and refund all premium payments to me.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
payment protection is not worth it

Sseems like you got the run around on how to properly file a claim. With any insurance you how to be dilligent and follow the requirement to have a claim paid. Typically if you make a formal written complaint and can prove that it was company error, not yours, that caused the claim to not be filed, then they will pay it. Cap1 can't help you with that you have to deal with the insurance company directly. I used to work for the insurance company.
NOW HERE'S THE REAL DEAL. Payment protection is offered on a lot of credit cards and by a lot of different companies but it is generally all the same. NEVER buy payment protection ins. Its jut not worth it. There are so many things it doesn't cover and because its sold as an attachment to a credit card you never really have an ins agent explain it to you in detail. You have to know what questions to ask, and most people don't. You have to thoroughly read your coverage and most people don't. Most importantly- for the little amount of coverage you get, its just not worth it. Be a wise consumer and manage your money well. Take the money you would pay on protection insurance, put it into an interest bearing savings account. This way if you lose your job you have money in the bank to cover you. Payment protection is a waste of money no matter what company offers it.
