Here is the email I received from one of their 'phishers' digging for more contacts than just my info they received from one of the official web boards I posted my resume.

I've been receiving these emails for some time now and only thought that since I'm in the computer industry that they were head hunters looking to fill the many computer jobs available on the east coast. Since I do not wish to live or work on the east coast I only deleted them until I found this website and did a quick search on the company name.

After reading the reports of others and clicking the link myself I feel this company is paying the $1000 plus to gain access to the resumes posted on real websites such as dice.com and monster.com to get their initial base of new email addresses. Once someone clicks the link and followed the online prompts for info and nicely includes their professional references they have just tripled their email database. Selling the email databases along with the personal preferences and personal info such as what cell phone carrier is associated with a certain email address the list suddenly becomes even more valuable.

Please please do not fall for this. If someone decides to contact you as a potential candidate for a job they will include their telephone number. One quick call to the LOCAL number with a polite "I'm sorry, wrong number" will verify the business and you can proceed as you normally would in securing employment.

The way I see it is if they are really interested they will call the phone number posted on my resume. Which posting a valid number on dice.com and monster.com has lead to a few marketing calls but worth the risk.

First, let me reassure you that your concerns are being taken into consideration. We are constantly trying to improve our services to give our applicants the most positive experience. Thank you for taking the time to open up this dialogue.

We do have a phone contact number, but it is primarily for employers to contact account specialists to set up accounts and begin listing jobs. For clarity's sake, that number is (866) 755-2785. If you call this line, our specialists will not be able to answer any questions about technical issues with the site, or update you on the status of your application. Technical issues are best handled by email at info@careernetwork.us.com so that the project manager can determine the nature of the issue and contact the correct programmer to fix the problem. As I stated before, we are only an intermediary for jobs. Once you apply, your resume is immediately forwarded to the company handling the hiring. Not listing the name of the company on our site is a courtesy we provide our clients, and is actually standard practice in the recruitment industry.

We provide a mailing address instead of a physical address for several reasons, but primarily for security. This is an issue we are aware frustrates some applicants, but without getting in to the specific reasons, we decided that a mailing address would suffice for the majority of applicants.

Our applications are actually designed with the applicant in mind. Our research discovered that users are frustrated by filling out online applications, and then attaching their resume -- in essence duplicating information. We've experimented with software that reads your resume and "pre-pops" the application. But due to dozens of variations in word processing programs, it does a very poor job. Applicants spend just as much time correcting the errors as they do filling out the application. Therefore, we decided to collect applicants' contact information for organization purposes, and then simply collect resumes, which is what we actually forward to the employer.

If your recruiting practices are legit, why do you not display a contact number or physical address? When filling out the application, the form DOES NOT look like an application... Why is it so misterious what company is intersted in the candidate? I am very upset that I just started doing research on this company. I had already filled out the referece form and all my professional references will be getting calls... Please clarify if your practices are ethical.

I'm sorry that you feel our recruitment practices are not meeting your needs. I'm sure this is only due to a misunderstanding of us and our business. Allow me to clear up any confusion by explaining who we are and what it is we exactly do.

Career Network is a new job board that is free to use by both job seekers and employers. Currently, there are thousands of jobs throughout the country available for application on our network of employment sites. We actively market those opportunities to individuals who have previously expressed interest in receiving employment offers. This works as a benefit for our corporate clients as we actively reach hundreds of potential applicants who had not previously been introduced to the opportunity through traditional job ads.

To keep our services free to both job seekers and employers we do offer advertising verticals on the site. However they are completely voluntary and do not in any way affect job seekers' consideration for the listed employment opportunities. We act only as an intermediary between the applicants and the hiring companies, and do not interfere with the delivery of submitted resumes for any reason. To do so would jeopardize our relationships not only with our corporate clients but our advertising partners as well.

Once those resumes are delivered, the rest of the process is solely in the hand of the employer. The decision to hire, not hire, contact, etc. is theirs alone. If they receive a large amount of resumes, they may require extra time to respond to the applicants who did not make the cut. From personal experience, I have received that letter as long as six months after I applied for a position.

We do have a contact phone number for employers listed on the employer section of our Web site. However, that will get you in contact with our account managers who have no control over the status of your application. Like I said, that decision is out of our hands. If you are having technical issues accessing the site, please use the email provided.

Furthermore, let me assure you that nothing will be done with your personal information that you do not expressly authorize. Foremost, since you are applying for a position, your resume will be transmitted to the employer who will then consider you for a job based solely on your skills and education. Beyond that, we will only connect you with our promotional partners if you agree to it during the application process.
