My husband and I as US citizens purchased a boat through a boat dealer from the Catamaran Company in Ft Lauderdale FL. Aside from being very difficult to deal with and a significant amount of false advertising that they kept changing (included items, engine size, repairs etc...) they told us the duty was being paid by them on the boat and that it had been filed and was in the proocess. Legally they could not even show the boat to us as US citizens without it being paid. We closed on the boat in good faith back in September 2015 and were told the duty documents would be coming. We then paid the Florida sales tax of $18000.

To this day we can not bring the boat back into the US until the duty is paid which they are trying to force us to do. Be careful in dealing with the Catamaran Company since they are clearly not honorable and have caused us nothing but great expense and grief. We have turned it over to the States attorney and to another attorney to try and get this rectified. This should have been a fun and happy experience for us that has turned into a very costly night mare.
