Several months ago, Charter Fitness took over my former gym, Cardinal Fitness, in Urbana, Illinois.  One of the changes I noticed was that Fox News--which I find very offensive--was constantly playing on the club TV.  If another member is watching a show, I normally just let it go, but one day I was there in the late morning with no other members around, so I asked the staff to please change the channel, because I didn't want to watch right-wing propaganda while I exercised.  They refused.  When I complained to the manager, he said it was corporate policy that Fox News always had to be on.  I said I would take my complaint to the corporation--but the manager didn't tell me that Charter Fitness does not ALLOW you to get in touch with corporate headquarters.  There is no contact information on their website, so if you have a complaint about your local club, you have to take it to--you guessed it--your local club.
Now I would like to cancel my membership (which was automatically rolled over from Cardinal), but I don't know how to do it.
This is an extremely dishonest company.

I read your report before signing up for Charter, and I was a bit weary about going to the gym as a result. In the end, the distance from my home and the cost to join ($10/month is very enticing!) won me over.

Upon my first visit, I was a bit concerned that I would be overwhelmed by Fox News being broadcast. This fear grew as I noticed how many TVs were placed within my view while I was working out. While I'd brought headphones to listen to my own music (and possibly drown out the Fox News I was expecting, thanks to this report), I decided to take a survey of what was on the TVs. Of the three TVs in my view, none were showing Fox News. The only news channel that was on was CNN. This was accompanied by a sports channel and a music television channel. This has been the case on all of my visits to the gym.

While I did not inspect all of the TVs in the gym, I would like people who are contemplating joining this gym to know that it is very unlikely that they will be bombarded with Fox News while exercising at Charter Fitness in Urbana.

I would also like to note that I have had only very positive experiences with the staff members, and the facility has been immaculate every time I have gone to work out.

I wonder if the issues that the writer of the report had were in direct relation to the switching of owners and resulted from miscommunication during the switch over.
