I read about the gentlement was felt he was ripped off by Circuit City's Extended Warranty. That's nothing! They've had my computer FOUR TIMES for the same problem!!!

The first time (October) I got it back, IT WOULDN'T EVEN TURN ON!!!!! After waiting almost three weeks to get it back (they replaced the motherboard), I had to call their service department and waste countless hours "trouble-shooting" over the phone. After waiting another week for someone to come out to my house - he (he being ANOTHER independent contractor to Circuit City) tells me the service people connected the power button WRONG!

Within a few weeks (December), we had the same problem (what we originally thought was the video card), PLUS now it won't hold the time (a simple battery replacement). I'm told my particular motherboard had an integrated battery and that I would have to again send it to service.

Again, almost two weeks later I get it back (they replaced the CPU)- and IT STILL WON'T HOLD THE TIME. This time, the computer didn't even last 24 hours! Again, I'm waiting for someone to come to the house. After about a week, they AGAIN replaced the motherboard. Guess what. Still doesn't work properly. So - they're going to send someone to the house AGAIN to (you guessed it) replace the motherboard, EXCEPT, they send him the wrong motherboard, and he can only change the battery (yep - its NOT integrated)!!! That fix lasted a few days.

Now - I can rarely get past the logo screen and when I do, it freezes or simply shuts off. So - this would be a FOURTH replaced motherboard. Maybe if they would actually try to fix the problem instead of simply changing parts...

A Positive Result

AUTHOR: Cindy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 04, 2003

After complaining about the service received on my computer (over a period of four months) I should let everyone know that I have FINALLY received a positive result.

Even though I had repeatedly asked to speak with management at Circuit City (and at one point I was told there was "no manager" with whom I could speak), I found the right person to speak with, who knew the right person to call at GE-Zurich Consumer Relations. Within two weeks, I received a replacement computer - which is what I had been trying to do for over a month!

Unfortunately, it seems that different people are given different information. If the sales people AND the service people (and ALL their subcontractors) AND the consumer relations people were given the same information - which could have then be relayed to me - this situation could have been resolved much more quickly. I was told a number of different things by a number of different people.

Anyway - as I said, I did receive a replacement computer and so far so good.

Inquire about the No Lemon Gaurantee

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 03, 2003

If your product is serviced 3 times for a legitimate problem, then they need to replace the item, per the terms of their No Lemon Gaurantee.

I suggest you go to the store, and speak with the management about your problem. If that does not work, call their Cool Line and talk to someone at corporate.

A friend of mine had a PC that was nearing the end of its 4 year warranty, and there was a power surge at her home that disabled the PC. Took it in, got it back 2 weeks later, and they replaced the hard drive and modem. The PC kept shutting off, and having other problems, so she took it back again after about 2 weeks. Came back with another hard drive replaced. Warranty is now expired, but they covered the repairs for 90 days. Same problem, where hard drive seems to be failing within a week of picking it up. Her and I went and spoke with the manager of the computer department, and he agreed that it sounded like the power supply was bad, and never replaced. They took back the PC under the No Lemon Gaurantee, and she got a $1,100 credit to pick out a new one.

It seems like there are problems with any retailer, but you just have to go in armed with the facts, and treat them with respect, and they will do the best to take care of the problems. Yes, some are legimitate, but from what I read there are a LOT of BS complaints people have, or they are barking up the wrong tree with issues (warranties provided by manufacturer, rebates from manufacturer, not stores).

I hope you do get your problem solved with CC.
