City Auto Body Joseph Alves Worse painting than Earl Scheib, Gouges customers, Don't believe estimates, Stay Away!!! newport, Rhode Island

Went to City Auto Body to get several car acessories painted - a hood scoop, a set of upper side scoops, and a set of lower side scoops. Joe said no problem, they'll come out great, it will cost $200. I was out of town so a friend of mine dropped off and picked up the scoops.

The work done was some of the worst painting I've ever seen. Maaco work looks like show car material next to what I got from City Auto Body. The panels had terrible orange peel, and even fish eyes. My friend told me that he worked for hours wet-sanding, buffing, and polishing just to get to the point where the panels would be usable. He did a good job but nothing could get the lousy work Joe did to look as it should have.

The final insult was that Joe charged 50% more than the price he originally gave. He tried every excuse he could think of to explain the lousy job. He said the scoops must have gotten contaminated at the factory. When told that the scoops came from three different companies, he changed his story. He then said the scoops must have gotten contaminated at the shop that was going to do the install. That shop had just opened in a new location and my car was the first one to be done there.

Joe did poor work and was not professional enough to admit that he screwed up. I later found out that the week before he did my scoops, someone used a substance at his shop that ruined the paint job on an entire car. I wonder how much they charged that poor chump. Do yourself a huge favor and stay away from City Auto Body!!!
