My Coke Rewards recently ran a promotion where you get 30 Coke Rewards Points if you enter codes from two 12-packs--that is, a bonus of 10 points--plus the phrase: "GoForGold". I entered my two 12-pack codes, but could not figure out where to enter the phrase. So, I wrote an email to my coke rewards requesting the additional 10 points. The response was to tell me that the phrase was to be entered in the same space as the codes and that I could buy two more 12-packs and enter those codes to get an additional 10 points. I sent another email asking very specifically for the initial 10-point bonus. Their response was that they could not do that. So, I called Coca Cola. They checked my account and agreed that I had entered the correct product codes for the promotion, but I was told that they could not add points because the promotion was automated. I pointed out that they could just add 10 points to my account manually. I was told that this would not be done. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was put on hold. I was never allowed to speak with a supervisor, but the original person came back on the line and told me that "It would not be fair to other people who had difficulty with the promotion, because Coca Cola would have to also give them ten points." I said that would be the right thing to do: if a customer had purchased the correct product for the promotion, but had difficulty implementing the promotion, then he or she should be given the ten bonus points. I was told that Coca Cola would not do this. I have great difficulty accepting that a company as large as Coca Cola is so incredibly cheap and short-sighted: Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc. are tasting better and better!
