Letterman web site Top 10 ripoff .....

The Late Show With David Letterman web page has a weekly Top 10 Contest for fans to write in jokes for a topic selected by the staff. Supposedly there are thousands of entries every week, but only 10 make it. The prize for succeeding is supposed to be a Late Show t-shirt.

After numerous entries, one of my jokes made it. The web site does not ask for your home address; it only asks for an e-mail address. As such, I assumed they would contact me to ask for my address. After 2 weeks, this still hadn't happened, so I sent in an e-mail providing them with the info. I received no response. Since then I have sent in at least half a dozen other e-mails, some directed to the Late Show, some to Viacom (the parent co. I believe), some to CBS; every one of these has been completely ignored.

I realize complaining about not receiving a lousy free t-shirt seems incredibly trivial, but if this happens to everybody, it amounts to a lot of t-shirts. Even that is not the issue. The incredible corporate arrogance and indifference to ignore so many requests (none of which were rude or abusive) for information or that they honor such a simple promise is gauling. If indeed thousands enter every week, their apathy towards customers approaches bank-like proportions.

I have soured incredibly on the whole Late Show experience needless to say. It was once a daily pick-me-up to look up this web site and see what I missed the previous night (I work and early shift at a Cancer Clinic; I don't have the luxury of staying up until midnight to see Letterman); now it only brings the taste of bile into my mouth.
