My wife and I bought a 2010 Sunseeker motor home on June 1 2010 from a couple who bought it brand new and owned it for just 10 weeks. They were forced to sell it as they were being transferred back to Europe. We went on two trips after we bought it and we enjoyed it immensely. It was not until we chose to trade it up for a larger unit, did the dealership in Langley B.C. inform us that not only was there structural cracks on the motor home, but a substantial water leak on the drivers side as well. We immediately had the leak repaired at the dealership. Just previously while it was in for service at a dealership it was left outside and uncovered for six weeks.
What really shocked me was when they told us that the structural cracks was old damage and that it had been repaired before. Showing me the evidence that it was previously repaired, I could not do anything else but agree.
So what happened to our brand new motor home?
I spoke to Nadean Levi the warranty manager at Country RV Centre in Kelowna B.C. where the motor home was originally purchased. I have spoken to her many times before. She had stated again that there were no repairs done to the motor home. The first time was just before I was about to pay for the extended warranty. I just wanted to make sure that there were no repairs done to the motor home before I bought it. This left me to believe that the original owners repaired it, and flogged it off on me. Nadean also had suggested that I should contact Forest River (the manufacturer of the motor home) and see about filing a claim, as it was still under the one year warranty. When the service manager from Langley B.C. (where we had the leak fixed) contacted Nadean to confirm the R.V. information, she denied telling me to file a claim and couldn't understand as to why I was doing it. The service manager informed me of the conversation that he had with her. Subsequently the service manager did file a claim to Mr. Burns at Forest River.
Believing what Country RV told me, I was really upset over the fact that I was taken advantage of by a really nice couple who sold me the motor home. I decided to track them down in Europe.
Finally I was successful in contacting the original owners of the motor home. They stated that they had absolutely no knowledge whatsoever, that the motor home had any damage done to it .
So who are the liars here, Country RV or the original owners?
I contacted Mr. Mike Burns at Forest River, having the claim that the dealership filed in front of him, he stated that they have already, in good faith, paid the claim on the damage that was done to the motor home. He told me of the damage that was done to the drivers side of the motor home when it was driven by the transport company to Country RV. After a lengthy conversation, Mr. Burns suggested that I contact Country RV, as they were the ones that repaired it.
I first contacted the service department at Country RV and asked the service manager when was the last repair done to this motor home, and gave him the serial number. He told me that it was in March 2010 and the customers name on the invoice was under Forest River/Dealer.
Calling Nadean Levi back was unsuccessful, so I spoke to the manager of Country RV, Henry Epp. Having stated that he had spoken with Nadean earlier, he totally denied absolutely everything that Mr. Mike Burns told me regarding the damage and the claim. I left him under the threat of being sued if I did not hear back from him. One thing that I did not tell Henry Epp, was that I spoke to Mr. Burns prior to speaking to him. My first thought was that both Nadean and Henry have to be related to each other.
That same afternoon Nadean Levi called me up saying that she has been put in charge of this file. I was not sure if she was going to continue to lie to me or not. I did tell her that I was in contact with the original owners and that they are moving back to Canada. Knowing that she would deny everything, I drilled her repeatedly, and told her that both sides were damaged and that both sides of the motor home have evidence that they were repaired before. It was not long after, she finally cracked and told me that, they only repaired the drivers side, that was all I needed to know.
When Country RV did their PDI (post delivery inspection) they found that the drivers side was damaged, and contacted Forest River. Rather than returning the motor home back to the manufacture to have it professionally repaired, they just patched up the crack in Kelowna at a local auto body shop. Country RV does not have a body shop at their Kelowna location.
Did the original owners know about this damage that was done to the motor home, was my next question that I put to her. And I repeatedly put it to her, but there was nothing but silence. Having me on speaker phone with Henry Epp present with her in her office, she was unsure as to what to do. Henry repeatedly ordered her to end the call, so she said that she had to go. One thing about being on a speaker phone, is that you can hear other people talking in the room.
A conference call was set up with Nadean, Mr. Mike Burns from Forest River, and myself. The result of that call was that, I had refused to drive the motor home all the way to Kelowna B.C. just so that Nadean (as she had demanded) can take a look at it. The aproximately estimated travel/road distance can be around 297.02 km. to 322.85 km. Needless to say, we settled on sending her photos of the damaged areas. She refused to supply me the name of the body shop where Country RV sent the motor home to get it patched up. She stated that she needed the body shops owners permission before giving it out. I never did get the name of the body shop from Country RV.
When I was refueling in Stockton California I noticed that the front passenger tire was almost bald on one side. I took it into the dealer there to have them look at it. The service manager said that everything in the front end was tight but because he had to sub-let the alignment out, I would have to wait for 2-3 days to have it completely checked out. Wanting to return home he offered me a tire rotation as an alternative, saying that I should have it looked at when I get home. I was going to take the scenic route and drive the costal highway along the side of the mountains, through California and Oregon. I quickly changed my mind and drove on the I-5 straight home.
Upon my arrival home, I took it into Dams Ford Lincoln Sales in Surrey B.C.. Upon completing the front end alignment, the technician said that my bushings were toasted. He also said that, based on the mileage and the year of the motor home, he has never seen one side of an alignment out so much. I showed him the worn tire that is now on the back of the motor home. He said that the tire could have easily blown out if I did not see it and had the tires rotated when I was in California.
When I asked him what side of the motor home was out so much he said the left front being the drivers side.
Henry Epp, the manager of Country RV called me up and said do not call back again, and If you have an issue with any damage that is on the motorhome you should take it up with the people you bought it from. Country RV is only responsible for the original owners who purchased the motor home and that is all. He stated further that he was going to help me out, but because I was rude to the warranty manager, Nadean Levi (the one who lied to me from the beginning) and because I talked to a lawyer they changed their mind.
Our insurance company will not cover the damage as it is all attributed to the original damage/repair that Country RV did. I will not go after the original owners, because they had no knowledge of the damage/repair that was done prior to them taking possession of the motor home. Our repair bill is between $8-10,000.00
My son and I have started a website, www.countryrvbuyerbeware.weebly.com on ripoff.com I am unable to show you the following:

The numerous e-mails from the original owners denying any knowledge that the motor home was damaged, on page 3

When I flew up to Prince George to purchase the motor home, their home was up for sale and their furniture was getting thin. They are going to be filing a complaint with the B.C. Automobile Sales Association, as well as the BBB against Country RV. They would not be doing this if they knew about the damage.
On page 3 of the website they stated that they had no knowledge of the damage. As well they will help me out with anything they can do to get justice.
Only now after driving it the cause of the original damage is breaking through, on the sides of the motor home. This is only becuase Country RV did not repair the cause of the crack but merely patched it up so that it would not be visable. The crack as shown in the photo on page 2. Also on page 2 of the website, countryrvbuyerbeware.weebly Country RV confesses to patching up the damage. They also state themselves that it is a structural problem.
I know that the original complaint does not say anything about what he original owners are going to do. I was just in contact with them yesterday. Thank you so very much for your comment so that I could clear a few thing up. Please visit My Blog to see exactly how Country RV treats people who call in.

Generally when someone says that they are moving out of the country, that is a huge red flag that some scam is going on. Your "trusting" people you don't know from the people down the street. Do you really expect someone who is trying to scam you to say "Yep we knew all about the damage and were just scamming you". But perhaps they were 100% honest and had no idea, I am also not saying that the dealer didn't try to pull something. Just that it is just as possible that these people were scamming you as well.
One thing I did notice you didn't mention at all, but perhaps I missed it. If this damage is as bad as you say it should have been very noticeable. So when you had it checked out BEFORE you bought it what did the mechanic say? Because if you did have it checked out and they missed repaired frame damage they could be just as at fault.
