This all began on Sunday May 06, 2012. I had needed some cash and I thought a trade-in on my Nissan Altima 2009 SE would be a good way to do just that and still have a trusty vehicle to make use of. This was not the case at all; the 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS that I traded in for was not maintained properly or serviced sufficiently for sale.
I was at the Hyundai service station twice for the same issue of the tire pressure light staying on. I was told to put air in the tire and it would be fine. I put air in the tire as soon as we left Courtesy and the light remained lit. I was then told to give it time to adjust. Well, the light was still on the next morning and I was told to bring it in for service, which I did on 05/08/12, not only was I treated poorly but the problem wasnt even solved that day. Also, the tires they did inspect they said were at 6/32 or greater and I was in again for the same issue on 05/12/12 and still they stated that the car had passed inspection. The first time the service technician said it was the tire sensor and that was replaced. The second time a hole in the tire was located, and the light over the license plate was out and replaced, that obviously wasnt seen the first time and it was now patched up. Anyway, that repair on the tire lasted about a week and I found myself at Tires Plus on the morning of May 22, 2012. I was not planning on taking it back to Courtesy a third time for the same thing. Tires plus inspected the vehicle and found approximately $1,200.00 worth of necessary repair. The necessary repairs included but were not limited to; all the tires needing replacement (which they measure the times at 3/32 and the one that Courtesy repaired was deemed un-repairable by Tires Plus. All 4 tires shouldve been replaced. The brake fluid was filthy, they didnt even bother to clean or replenish the fluid (major safety hazard).Yet they marked off the fluids as OK on a multipoint inspection. There was no cap on the a/c filter that rested behind the glove compartment in the vehicle, yet they marked off a/c OK on the multipoint inspection as well. The cap being off caused the papers in my glove compartment to be sucked into the air vent, which made a noise that was more than annoying. It also caused great alarm in my wondering what it could be. There was also something with plugs or cables etc. Tires plus found a lot wrong with the Hyundai in question. I gave the report to Courtesy but never got the paperwork back. Im sure Tires Plus will have a copy of the report and estimate of repairs. The reports from Courtesy and Tires Plus are very conflicting.
I also took out a warranty on the Hyundai for $1,957.03 to insure the engine/power train. The cash back was $2800.00, and then less the $500.00 I put down on the insurance. I called Mr. Sterling, Finance manager at Courtesy repeatedly to cancel the policy and get a refund on the $500.00 and terminate any future payments since there was NO WAY that I was keeping this poorly maintained Hyundai. My request was dismissed and my calls were then ignored. I still havent seen the $500.00 and not to mention that I had to use my debit/credit card to pay $500.00 down on my own car. It is a horrific ordeal for anyone to have to go through and its still not over! I was told that my account would be credited the $500.00 paid to SPP on 05/06/12, in 1-2, 3-4, and then 10-14 business days. Now Im told it can take up to 8 weeks!
Anyway, I was instructed on 5/22/12 by management at Tires Plus to call Courtesy to see if they would honor all that shouldve been done prior to sale that obviously wasnt. I was bounced around on the phone a bit until I got a sales manager named Ron to speak with me. He told me to bring the car and paperwork in and he would have his service manager Keith have a look at it. However, I was done with Hyundai at this point and prior. I wanted a different vehicle with much less than the 104,000 miles on the Hyundai (my Altima only had 23,130 miles) and I wanted them to honor the original trade in value, less the cash back of course. I was given $15,620 on my Trade in for the Altima on 05/06/12 and they valued the Hyundai at $12,071.00. However, the values changed dramatically in a matter of 17 days. The Hyundai was now worth $9,000.00 and my Altima was $21,447.27. However, there is a difference in amounts listed on the retail purchase agreement than what is stated on the Retail installment sale contract. This was unbelievable! I must admit that they did repair a small scratch/scrape on the Altima that was on the back-end drivers side due to a very minor accident. That was the only thing wrong with the vehicle. I kept up with service and the car was in mint condition performance wise. This is clearly a rip-off in every sense and on every level.
I also filed a report with the Better Business Bureau for assistance and nothing has come of their involvement as of yet. One of the executive mangers at Courtesy approached me on the filing with the BBB the afternoon of 5/22/12 while I was awaiting the paperwork on my Altima. She was so sweet when approaching me about the BBB contacting her. However, once the deal was set her whole demeanor changed dramatically. She was short with me, rude, and downright nasty about the new charges and wasnt willing to discuss anything further. The Altima was paid in full by my Father, who was 87 at the time of purchase. It was purchased in August of 2009 at Ocala Nissan in the state of Florida. The cost on the Altima was $26,745 which was less $7,500.00 on a trade in of my old vehicle. In total cash down it cost my Dad $19,552.29 and now, through a deal gone seriously wrong, Courtesy wants an additional $14,000.00 from me. I could easily see being charged the $2800.00 that I got on cash back and for any auto body work performed but not to pay $14,000.00+ as a new buyer. It was my original vehicle and this is serious dishonest sales practice. Also, I had forgotten CDs and some mail in the Hyundai when I brought it back. I called that very evening and the next morning. I have yet to see the belongings that I mistakenly left behind since Courtesy is not claiming any accountability for anything left in the vehicle, or for anything at all apparently. I need any assistance possible in resolving this case and I am ready, willing and able to go to the fullest extent of the law. If any further information is needed then I welcome anyone that can assist me, to contact me.

I must add that I requested a car that had not been smoked in and I was assured that this was the case with the Hyundai; however there was a huge cigarette-type burn on the passengers side back seat. All lies, just to make a sale. This care was far from what was promised to me.
I also filed a report with the Better Business Bureau for assistance and nothing has come of their involvement as of yet. I could easily see being charged the $2,800.00 that I got on cash back and for any auto body work performed but not to pay $14,000.00+ as a new buyer. I couldve purchased a new car at $23,000.00 all total with the flimsy trade in on the Hyundai, which I was told was not possible due to credit issues on my part. But, the Altima was my original vehicle and this is serious dishonest sales practice. Also, I had forgotten CDs and some mail in the Hyundai when I brought it back. I called that very evening and the next morning. If any further information is needed then I welcome anyone that can assist me, to contact me. I have the names of who I dealt with and who I spoke with. I have documents to substantiate my case. Also, I will continue to make the payment of $262 a month until all necessary and possible proceedings come to a close, and there after depending on outcome.
