I received an "over limit" penalty charge on my Cross Country Bank Visa account. I had NOT gone over my credit limit; Cross Country Bank had assessed it's annual fee, and that put my account a few dollars over the limit.

I paid the entire bill except for the over-limit charge, and wrote to them to dispute the charge(can't talk to them, no phone number is available that a human will answer). I explained the situation and asked that the charge be removed. No reply for a long time, then FINALLY a response.

No, they couldn't remove the charge, and now I was charged a late fee for non-payment of the disputed charge as well! I wrote again, and FINALLY got another denial, plus interest accumulating on the overlimit fee, the late fee! But this letter had a phone number on it, so I called.

I have never been so insulted and abused by a "customer service representative" in my whole life. This man taunted me, mimicked me, insulted me, and yelled at me. He would not allow me to speak to his supervisor. I hung up on him and called back, and got a different person, who did let me speak to a supervisor.

All that the supervisor would do was give me the choice of having either the overlimit fee, or the late fee removed, and this only if I agreed not to close the account. I was utterly weary by this time, and these phone calls were all at my expense, so I chose to have them credit the late fees-with-interest, and gave up. I have kept the account open, as I agreed to do, but I will never use it again--I didn't promise to use it, just to keep it open--and I will close it just before the next annual fee is charged. I didn't promise to keep it open forever.
