I was told by both District manager Sean Dickason and Steve Greenamyer that I would be receiving a full refund of $4234.80. Mr. Greenamyer personally assured me that on just after the July 4th weekend, on July 6th, he would personally get to the bottom of this matter and be sure to refund me in full. In place of that promised reimbursement that took place over 4 phone calls (June 27th, June 30th, and July 3rd) I was told I would be given an arbitrary amount and no explanation for charges.

Now, Mr. Greenamyer is not taking my phone calls as promised, instead his secretary is screening. This company KNOWINGLY rented a dilapidated and unsafe vehicle at the cost of my families safety.

Cruise America should be more concerned about the damage to my daughters head from an item flying out of the cabinet from their cabinet coming apart while driving down the road. Not to mention the other items outlined below in my previous email.

The charges per contract are $192.31 per day. I was originally charged for 21 days although I told Cruise America I would be returning on June 27th. I was told that they could not change the contract because it would take "too long" but Cruise America would make note of it and not to worry, I would be fully reimbursed for unused days. I returned the vehicle on June 27th.

Therefore (regardless of full reimbursement that was promised (4234.80) to me by both district manages Sean and Steve) I am owed:

192.31 @6 days = $1153.86
ICE:                           $ 137.80
DEPOSIT                   $ 500.00

Total:              $1791.66

I was told by roadside service to retain my receipts which I did I would be reimbursed in full up to $30 per day. I showed the receipts to Hitten Bhatpuria at the Austin location.

I am aware that they have retired this RV from the fleet as it is unacceptable to rent. I am aware that in its place there is a brand new RV. There would be no damage to the bumper if your mirror was in working order (which it was not). So there is not just "interior" problems. Cruise America KNOWINGLY rented an unsafe vehicle. Had the mirror been in working order the dent would not have occurred.

Response from Cruise America:

After the full review and discussion with Sean Dickason on this matter we have had our Accounting Department issue a refund of the unused days ($851.40) to Visa card ending in XXXX. It is with this refund that I do sincerely hope that you will provide Cruise America another opportunity to serve you in the future. Please again accept my apologies for the poor impression you received.

Sincerely,

Heather McCleary

Original email

I am writing this email to document the poor condition of the vehicle at the request of GM "Sean" from the West Coast.  I communicated with "Sean" on June 27th because "Steve" was unavailable due to the delivery of his baby on this day.

I have communicated via phone with roadside service, customer service and with "Sean," and in person with Hiten Bhatpuria, the location manager of the Austin location. On multiple occasions I have given the following list - and with roadside service on as the incidences arose.

1. Driver side mirror "moves" outward when in motion causing the driver to not be able to see - despite duct tape. Driver has to pull over every 35-40 miles to physically move the mirror back to proper position.

 2. windshield wipers need to be replaced (we were in several storms and had to pull over or go 30-40 mph because they were "smeary"

3. Refrigerator only worked when hooked up to electric

4. Refrigerator door fell off when in motion (unable to be put back together)

5. Black water was not flushed from previous renter and is "blocked"

6. "Levels" are not properly registering (IE: freshwater is full and registers empty)

7. upper cabinet door fell off during transit (an object flew out of the comport and hit my 7 year old in the head)

8. No key for the exterior door so we had to crawl through the cab to lock the RV

9. kitchen drawers fly open during transit

10. top bunk cabin leaks causing all belongings to be soaked

11.  rear cabinet (above bed in the back)  leaks causing all belongings to be soaked

12. Air conditioner unit works intermittently (kicks off after a couple of hours for a few hours)

13. Futon frame is bent downward causing discomfort when sleeping and sitting on it

14. Dinette table is loose

15. Curtains are filthy

16. Cushions are stained and filthy

17. toilet was stained/dirty from previous renter

18. Key locking system does not work on all exterior compartments, one is missing

19. Pilot knob to kitchen range broke off on first try.

This trip took two years to save for so that I could have a memorable experience with my children whom are in college/graduated and so they could spend time with their little sister. I don't see them often and this was an opportunity for all of us including my boyfriend and one other friend to enjoy a long road trip and enjoy seeing the midwest together.

We had a long pull and in the first two days and drove 800 miles. The RV began to have many of the problems on the 2nd day of the trip after 400 miles. Unfortunately the stress of dealing with these issues and inconvenience absolutley ruined the trip. We lost various food items along the way incurring additional expenses, my daughter had only two outfits for most of the trip because he clothes became drenched and we were traveling in National Parks and regional areas that did not have laundry mats. My son (who has a broken collar bone) had to sleep on a slanted futon. We didn't use the toilet, shower, refrigerator and mostly cooked outside due to the problems.

The company of Cruise America should have been aware before the rental agreement that this RV was not fit to rent. The systems should have been checked. The mirror should have been in working order and the refrigerator should have been working. Yes, we overlooked the door not having a key and were willing to crawl through the cabin so we could begin our vacation on June the 12th. However, we had no idea we were driving off in a "glorified tent." We were excited to be together and couldn't wait to begin our adventure. Unfortunately by the end of the trip we were exhausted and spent from dealing with a broken down RV that should not be rented to anyone!

As a loyal customer (four previous rentals from the Northwest) of Cruise America I am asking for a full refund. I have discussed this with Hiten Bhatpuria whom believes  a full refund is due in this case. Hopefully you can restore my confidence in your company.
