I hired Dagar Company to diagnose and repair one of my A/C units using a coupon they advertised on Angie's List. The work was performed on 04/29/2014 and their diagnosis was that the unit required additional Refrigerant and everything else with the unit was fine. I thought it may be ½ or 1 Lbs. of Freon and agreed to the service. Dagar Tech , Randy Auerbach filled the Freon using a Gauge but he didn't do any calculations and kept adding Freon blindly ( my research online is that Freon can’t be just added based on pressure reading on gauge but Superheat and Sub-cooling calculations either by meter or manually need to be done to find right level) . He added more than 4 Lbs. of Freon which was a surprise to me and I asked him how so much Freon could be lost from system. He said the leak detection would be ~$400.00 and I should get that done if the Freon is lost again. They charged $396.00 for Freon and $188.00 for service contracts. The Temp difference in return and service was ~12F but Randy mentioned that it will get better after the Freon gets properly circulated in system. The unit was still not working fine but I thought that it is just hot weather so temp is not coming down. On August 02, 2014 I noticed that air coming out of outside unit was cold (which as per online search meant that compressor was not working). I contacted Dagar Company again and they told me it would be additional charge to come look at it. At this point I decided to call my Home warranty company. The diagnosis of the Tech is that the system was over charged and that made compressor not to start. He had to remove 4 Lbs. of Freon from system ( based on superheat & subcooling readings) and after that compressor started running , but it now hesitates at start-up and I am told by Tech ( thru Home Warranty Company) (in his report) that the compressor is damaged as it ran with overcharge for 3 months.
My complaint is that Dagar Company mis-diagnosed the issue, their tech is either not qualified to do this kind of service (based on how he did it) or he just added refrigerent to make $396.00 ( $99 per pound) of unsuspecting customer. This in turn has caused more damage to the system and I have additional expense of $640.00 to get it fixed.
