I was looking for a wedding photographer and after speaking with and meeting with Dave Crockett, I thought he would do a great job and his prices were fantastic, considering what I was getting. He said he has a degree in graphic design as well as photography so his digital albums would be better than others in the business. His samples were good, so I went along with it.
The most important aspect of my wedding package was that I would receive all of my digital negatives on a CD in high quality so that I could print out any, and as many, pictures that I wanted from my engagement session and wedding day. All of his packages stated that I would get "all digital negatives". He stated this as well at our meeting.
Unfortunately, he did not keep his word. After the engagement session (where at least a hundred picures were taken, probably more) I was given a link to his website where I could view my pictures. There were only 8 pictures! I could not believe that after all the pictures he took only 8 of them turned out. Not only that, but almost all of them did not look good! Either I or my fiance were squinting or eyes were closed. Most of the various locations/poses that we took pictures weren't even included in those 8. I asked for the rest of the pictures, but he said he only gave me the ones that turned out and met his "high quality control."
As a professional photographer, I would think he could take more than 8 good photos. I asked to have the pictures anyway, hoping that I could salvage some of them with PhotoShop, or perhaps thinking his "quality control" was too high of a standard and that I would consider the pictures to be fine by my standard. I questioned how high his quality control could be if the "good" ones had my eyes closed in them. Again, he refused to give me the pictures.
After several more e-mails reminding him that in the contract it states that I will receive ALL of my pictures, he agreed to send them. At this point, I was scared that the same situation would happen on my wedding day, so I asked what the process was to get out of the contract. Note that I did not state that I wanted to get out of the contract... just HOW I would go about doing so. He replied that he was sorry it didn't work out for me, and that I was now out of the contract, and that he was no longer obligated to give me any pictures. Nor would he refund my $600 deposit.
Unbelievable!
He has since then, removed from his website the statement that you get "all digital negatives", so at least he did that. But bottom line is he was a liar and stole my money!

#4 REBUTTAL Owner of company
This is a huge lie in every way
AUTHOR: Dave Crockett - (U.S.A.)

This story is not only a distortion of what happened, it's a total fabrication. Yes, the bride was unhappy with her portraits, but not for the reasons she states. First of all, she got 18 portraits, the fewest I've ever gotten from a portrait session. Why? Because the couple had a huge fight on the way to the session and when there, the groom didn't want to be near her, let alone cuddle. It was actually very difficult to even get the portraits I did get for them because of this.
I would have been happy to reshoot the portraits, however, they ended up breaking up and didn't even get married. That is why she wanted to cancel the photography contract. Since I could not give her the deposit back, she's getting back at me by posting these lies. I do not give back deposits for cancelled weddings, especially when I've already done some work with them.
I to this day still have her photos posted on my website and you are welcome to view them. Just visit www.photogig.com and on the client proof page, click on her name, "Farnaz and Mitch's engagements" and the password is "may20". They are certainly not that great, but only because they did not cooperate in any way and didn't even want to look at each other, which made photographing them almost impossible.
I also encourage you to view the rest of my website to get a better sense of my work, style and experience.
Also, I do my best to give as many photos as possible to my couples. I average about 25-35 portraits from an engagement session and 500-600 for a wedding. I do not release photos that do not turn out (for instance, the groom not even looking at the bride in their engagement portrait because he's mad at her. That would hardly be an engagement portrait.) If you look at their portraits, you can tell even from the ones I gave them that the groom didn't really want to be near her. This is not typical of my shooting. With my style of photography, there has to be a spark to capture. you'll see what I mean by looking at the rest of my work.
Would you want a portrait back where you're in mid-blink? I wouldn't! That's why I only give portraits that turn out. That's called professionalism and having a standard. Most people appreciate that.
So, it boils down to this:
- She's lying about how many photos she got, see for yourself on my website!
- Her portaits weren't that great because they didn't want to be near each other!
- She canceled the contract because they didn't even get married!
- Had they wanted to, I would have been happy to reshoot the session, in fact, I would have really liked to, but since they broke up, that wasn't an option.
- She states that I told her that I have a degree in graphic design. I do not have a degree in graphic design. I am a formally military school-trained photographer, journalist and graphic designer. I have a bio on my website you're welcome to read. She completely made things up to make me look as bad as possible because she was trying to extort me for her deposit back. It's that simple and very unfortunate.
Please visit my website at www.photogig.com or call me at 443-983-0664 if you'd like further information on about me and my photography.
