Dell Dimension 2100 advertised for 699.00 CDN - OK price. But...to upgrade memory from 128MB to 384MB is 550.00 - a 70.00- 80.00 max value. I sent an email to them asking if it was a mistake, and they said yes, it probably was.
But several days later, the site is still not changed. Wonder how many suckers bought 80.00 worth of memory for 550.00? If you want to upgrade from 128 to 256 MB it's 100.00 - a 35-40.00 value. Also, freight is 130.00! Not much of a bargain anymore, is it!
Unknowledgable/unresearched buyers beware!
PS - about the same machine on the US website is 1047.00 USF - equivalent to about 1600.00 Canadian. Deduct 40.00 US for processer 1.1G to 900G Celeron, and 139.00 to bring 3 year warranty to match Canadian offer of 1 yr warranty = minus 179.00 US = 280.00 CDN leaves you with 1320.00 CDN - oh but the freight is 'free' - so take off another 200.00 CDN = 1120.00 CDN.
A mighty maze but not without a plan!

The Dell Canada Run Around
AUTHOR: Casey - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, April 06, 2003
I recently bought a new computer from Dell and while I enjoy my computer immensely, i was disgusted with the customer service that I recieved.
Dell lost my payment for over 3 days and would not "comment" on why it was taken from my bank account but was nowhere to be found withing the walls of Dell.
Like other unreliable companies I spoke with a ridiculous number of "supervisors" that all gave me different information. It is a nail-biting experience to lose 1500.00 of my hard earned money for so long.
In Dell's defence when i finally was able to speak with someone that was able to locate my $$$ they sympathized with my frustrations and agreed to throw in a printer-- which was supposedly to arrive 3 monthes ago. Alas no printer. Again, I fought my way through a labrynth of automated phone messages but the person/persons that I had dealt with were "no longer with the company". SOL to me i guess.
Dell's constant free give-aways and full page adds in the newspaper are tempting- especially to those that are fairly computer illiterate as I am. However, I recommend paying a little more to deal with a real-life, speaking person that you can actually track down if need be.
