Derek Greenwich Renting Scam Calgary, Internet

My fiancee and I were looking online for a new home to rent and came across this gentleman's posting on UsedCalgary.com. He posted a fully furnished two bedroom apartment for $950/month and that pets were allowed. The ad didn't state anything about utilities, or anything but the pictures posted in the ad were really nice and seemed legit.

I emailed the seller, informing him of the generalized jobs we have and that we have 2 cats. His email back sent up red flags of a scammer. He restated the rent was for $950CAD, all utlities included and the furniture was included. He stated if we didn't wish to use his furniture, he'll pay to have it moved to a storage facility a few blocks away.

What really tipped off was his little speech about himself. "Now about me: I'm a structural engineer and I work for MWH Global Engineering, I'm 45 years old, married with 2 children. I worked hard to have a good career and I really respect hard earned money. The company I work for they have projects all around the world so most of my time I'm traveling. The apartment will be available for the next 6 years for sure. I want to rent the place on my own because it's a private property therefore I need to send you the keys and the papers. I'm sure we can find a way for both of us to be satisfied."

I flagged the ad on usedcalgary.com but they seem to have the ad up still. I wrote to him anyway, speaking of wanting to meet my landlord face to face so I know I'm not being scammed. His response back was very vague, ignoring my comment of wanting to see him and my worry of being scammed. He mentioned www.rentreporters.com being the way we'd pay our rent, so I verified that the site was real. I decided to do some research on it, and found this site with reports from rentreporters.

Please Rent Reporters, put something on your site clear and big about not doing the key transfers and dealing with housing rentals! A lot of young people will be scammed easily through your site and it doesn't look good on you.
