We rented a property in La Jolla Shores, CA from these people via VacationRentals.com, and they basically absconded with $200 of our security deposit by fabricating extra charges, which were completely false, flat-out lies. It could be that their local cleaning lady may simply be piking for extra dollars by reporting false information to the owners, but who knows for certain?

I had months of email correspondance w/ Diane Sloat about the money that she kept from us.
She has answers for everything, with a complex story about the other fellow from PA who posted a review on here. I'm sure if you ask her about my review, she'll tell you that I'm a liar too! SHE'S THE LIAR! Hope you heed these warnings before you fall victim too.
In our case, she held firm that we wrecked a towel with hair dye...despite me telling her that neither my wife (or I) dye our hair. I offered to send her a picture of us (that was taken on their property) that would hopefully dispute that. As usual, she proceeded to ignore this.
Ultimately, I can only come to the same conclusion as the other reviewer -- these people are intentionally taking money from their renters. They are also GROSSLY MISREPRESENTING their property.

I rescind my prior report about these people...Guess I fell into their trap to.
So many issues:
1. They stole $50 of our cleaning deposit with made up nonsense.
2. THERE IS SOMEONE LIVING ON THE FIRST FLOOR. A "Fortune 500" CEO who went to Harvard named "Randy." Hate to break it to you lady, BUT THERE IS NO FORTUNE 500 CEO NAMED RANDY WHO WENT TO HARVARD!! And even if there were, would they live in your basement??
3. The woman -- Diane -- also lied about there being no other issues with cleaning around the time that we stayed there. Did she not read this report?
4. Contrary to the "furnished by an interior designer" comments, the place is close to a major road and furnished with ugly, dumpy materials.
5. DSL doesnt work.
Don and Diane Sloat seem to be nothing but liars who are looking to swindle renters.
They not only rent in La Jolla but also in Lake Tahoe, NV. Watch out!!

We stayed there too and had the same problem (only $50 though) of fabricated cleaning issues. Had the same feeling as you about the people that I rented from.
So, I decided to call the housekeeper that was on the Sloat's list (Call her yourself -- Maria 619-227-8980) and she gave me a long widded story of all the damage that we did (kids wetting beds, candy all over -- total BS). It sounded like a story that was evolving as it was told.
She also told me that it was only recently that the Sloats asked her for detail on over charges.
And I'd note that she's a pretty crappy maid since there were dead bugs & cobwebs when we arrived.
Guessing that this is a situation of someone taking advantage of their client who is 700+ miles away.
