On 7-2-14, I purchased Brazilian Flooring from TheDiscountFlooringCom.com for $6,546.48.  I have a copy of the invoice, which I received via email.  NOTE:  No where on the invoice does it mention any thing about what happens if defective material, who pays for shipping, etc., SEE ITEM # 1.  Why would the customer pay shipping and re-stocking fees for defective material?

On 7-10-14, the hardwood flooring material arrived at my house, around 6:00 PM (2-hours late).  I opened a numerous pieces of flooring to inspect the material and noticed that the product didn't fit tightly (1/16" to 1/8" play in the tongue and grooves).  THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND I REFUSED THE MATERIAL.

Even the Driver from the shipping company who was delivering the material statement the material was “junk” and he wouldn’t installed it.  He said he was a builder for 25+ years in New Jersey and agreed there was a problem with the material.

I am a registered RI Contractor with 20+ years’ experience and have installed many wood flooring, and have never come across material like this, which is the reason I refused the material.

On 7-11-14, I emailed Discount Flooring and let him know the situation.  He called me back later that same morning and kept insisting there is nothing wrong with the flooring, even though he has never seen the material?  How can he possibly make such a statement?  He ruled out any possibility of any issues, and said I should have kept the material and installed it.

On 7-11-14, after much frustration and aggravation with the amount of time wasted, kitchen cabinets awaiting delivery, etc… I purchase totally different material locally.   The new hardwood flooring material has absolutely no play in the tongue and grooves.  I installed it and no issues so far.  Richard Bosse, of Bosse Flooring Resurfacing (who's finishing the newly installed, un-finished hardwood floors) looked at the defective material from Discount Flooring, and stated: "You are lucky you didn't install this stuff, there's a problem with it, and you would have had nothing but problems".

On 7-23-14, I received and an email from TheDiscountFlooring.com company (Mr. Craig Hurst), who is issuing a refund of $5,082.79, instead of the original amount of $6,546.48, and charging me $1,463.69 for shipping and re-stocking fees.  I called and tried to discuss the issues, problem with his flooring that he sent me, which to this day, he has not seen… and he still refuses to acknowledge any issues with the material and doesn’t wants me to charge me $1,463.69 for his defective material!

Note, this was never part of the original invoice he emailed me, and had no idea I would be responsible for shipping costs (different amounts charged to me to ship and return material) and a re-stocking fee… for his defective material, see attached email.

I did a quick research on the internet to see if similar people have had issues with TheDiscountFlooringCo.com, and SEET ITEM #7, complaint filed on 5-15-14, same or similar material, Brazilian Cherry… which I refused to take the chance to install it, have it sanded/finished, and then have a problem… because at that point, it’s way too late… and way too much time and $$$.

I also filed a complaint against TheDiscountFlooringCo.com, which will be the 7th such complaint since 10-21-13 since the Better Business Bureau has been following this company!  That’s a lot of issues in a very small amount of time.

I filed a complaint that TheDiscountFlooringCo.com is selling defective material, which they have never seen, and refusing to credit the customer the full amount!  Mr. Craig Hurst is unreasonable in his request to entertain the problem with the flooring he is selling from a company in New Jersey... which he has no idea what the quality is…

Warning to whomever decides to do business with Mr. Hurst or his companies... he doesn't play fair, refuses to refund my $$$ for his defective material... and wants to charge me for his defective material... he actaully wanted me to install it?  Where would I be a few months down the road when the floors start to buckle, etc... trip over them?

Be careful about doing business with this company

Mike
