When I called 800-427-3078 to "activate" my new Discover credit card the person offered to send me information, with no obligation, on the Payment Protection plan. I said o.k. to the information, but made it crystal clear that I did not want to be enrolled, even in a free trial. I repeated it several times to be sure.

A week later I received the "Welcome kit" from Discover Payment Protection. I had been enrolled. When I called to cancel, the person told me that their marketing dept is very aggressive and they often sign people up who do not want the service. Sounds like a SCAM waiting for a law suit! I haven't used my Discover Card since.
