I see that i too have fallen victim to this scam. I was buying gas at the Texaco Station near the DMV on Broad Street. They asked if i wanted some surround sound speakers. There were two guys, the driver was mid-twenties with brown hair and a baseball cap with flip-flops (that should have tipped me off) and the passenger was a heavy-set guy maybe early to mid thirties with a buz-cut red hair with sunglasses, drove up in a fairly new white van with a sliding door on one side. They said they were from Newport News, VA and had already been paid for the job (he pulled out a wad of cash).

They said that they were on their way to a job and they only ordered two sets of speakers and the warehouse put 4 on their truck. Said they wanted to sell them so that they would not loose them. They gave me a story about loosing a flat panel TV that was left over from a job and i guess their boss kept it. Said they had one guy that was going to pay $400 but they were not going to take an out-of-state check.

After some talking, they said that they would sell them for Shipping and Handling plus taxes, amounting to $280.00. Followed me to the ATM and i decided that i would write a check instead. They asked if i could throw in a twenty for beer, so i gave them $20 cash.

I took them home and found a way to connect them to my stereo and they seem to work for now. Subwoofer is kind-of weak. Will do some more research to see if there is a receiver that is compatible. If you know of any please reply.

Tried to cancel check but they were at the bank when it opened the next morning. I have the name of one guy: James Ringer not sure if real name but he had to have ID in order to cash the check. Trying to track him down, my brother-in-law is a PI and i have a few friends in the police.
