Easy Care failed to honor the extended warranty which was purchased for a 2009 Jeep Wrangler.
Vehicle: 2009 Jeep Wrangler, 51,000 miles, all service done by dealership.
Incident: 68 mph on freeway, the vehicle started to run rough and the check engine light came one. 10 miles away from home, I reduced my speed and limped the vehicle to the house. The following day, when I started the vehicle, it was running rough at idle and sounded as it was missing on a cylinder. I drove the vehicle 2 miles to the dealership without an appointment and hand them check it out.
Mechanics report: With the initial thought that the injector or coil bank went bad and pulling error codes the mechanic could not raise or get compression in the #2 Cylinder. We contacted Easy Care and authorized a tear down of the motor. With further inspection and the auditor arriving to review the cause to the mechanical failure, Easy Care denied my claim for mechanical failure. Easy Care claimed the failure was from an "Early Detonation" in just one cylinder. This is not possible to my knowledge as a "Early Detonation" would affect more than one cylinder and would show damage on the pistons, which there is none in my case.
With this finding, the service manager and his team removed the piston and showed that the #2 piston wrist pin had ceased which caused the failure and is covered under the warranty. Will Easy Care continue to deny the claim? Is the company policy to deny...deny...deny and fail to honor its warranties that citizens file that are true and accurate by explaining the symptoms away to non-covered items?
Now, sitting with a denied claim from Easy Care for a covered warrantied item, a failed or uneducated adjuster and the notion of having a service that is not honorable, what is a citizen to do? $5800 repair bill to replace a engine block for a well serviced, low mileage vehicle while holding an extended warranty service which is not honorable and sold to me by a trusted dealer...? I guess it is time to contact an attorney?

After 2 inspection and a lengthy decision making process, Easy Care has authorized the service to be on replacing the motor due to the #2 Cylinder Wrist Pin failure.
Word of advice, keep your vehicle service records and keep them in great detail. Lastly, prepare to make a stand if what is first offered or suggested does not make sense or pass the "sniff test".
