As 2 other reports note, scam We have been scammed by Empirestyle.net, whatever this is we do not know?? Not fair for a working household to just get by...now I have to work to get this $$ back! My husband went to check our banking online today, as he does a lot of the week.  He found an extremely LARGE sum of money taken out with a supposed online purchase of$425.80 from Empirestyle.net.

He then called me at my place of work and inquired about this charge, which of course I did not make and would not make such a large purchase without consulting him first, as we are a very hardworking family of 5 struggling in these times!

I then went to my local branch of our bank and explained this in full to them, but because the charge is still pending, as it was made online today, we have to wait until the charge posts to our account to take this up with the Claims Department directly at our bank, which will be Monday, since today is Friday.

I then also did call my 800# on my debit card to reiterate the whole thing again and have them note my account.  She explained the same thing that the woman at my branch did....

So, I will pursue this on Monday morning and hope that it will be put back into my account and that the "scammers" that did this are caught and prosecuted!

Are you sure it's their fault?

AUTHOR: Subdolus - (U.S.A.)

It's very possible, and much more likely that your credit/debit card number was stolen and used.

A similar thing happened to me about two months ago, but our bank's fraud department caught it as something odd as there was one charge for gasoline at a CA station and another $250 charge from a sporting goods store (that also has an online store) in Ontario.

In both cases, the fault was not with the businesses in question, but with the fact that someone had managed to get a hold of our card number and tried to use it.

Even if you're careful not to use your cards online, if you use them at all for things like eating out, bill paying (even in person) or at retail stores, there is a chance that someone put a skimmer on the card reader or that an employee stole the numbers for their own use.

If I were in your place, I'd be more upset with the bank not taking your allegation of credit card fraud more seriously and immediately closing that account, reissuing you new cards, and reversing the charge.

Honestly, I find it very, very unlikely that the company mentioned in this report is responsible; it sounds like your CC number was stolen and used, which isn't empirestyle.com's fault.
