Enterprise Rent a Car scammed $100 from me. They wanted to scam me even more.

A little over a month ago I had an accident where my car had to be towed away (someone went thru a stop sign and hit my car really hard on the chauffer’s side). Since my car was towed away to a collision company about a block away from Enterprise Rent a Car in Bird Road and 72 avenue in Miami, I decided to rent a car there since the insurance company of the owner of the car who hit me was at fault and got the police citation would fully pay for the rent of the rented car. This car was a Toyota Corolla, just like mine, even the same color, but of a newer model. However I found that the trunk wouldn’t open from inside the car (there was a mechanical problem with it) and I could not hang my suit like in my car since there was not a single place to hang it from. Actually these were minor inconveniences since all I needed was a car to go back and forth to work, period (nothing fancy).

However when I it was time to make the required deposit of $50 they told me to sign the rental agreement and here is precisely the nitty-gritty part of this whole situation.

Since I told them that I had been in an accident about an hour ago (the police and tow truck came to the scene of the accident pretty fast) I was tired, hurt and somewhat confused, which is normal after being in an accident where the “other car” broke the axis that holds the front left tire of my car – that’s how bad the accident was. The company agent who took care of me (I don’t remember his name) told me that I must sign everything in the contract, including initialing everything also. When I asked him: are you sure that everything have to be signed and initialed? He told me that if I didn’t do it I could not rent the car (that meant walking back home and in pain after that bad accident for 10.6 miles or catching a bus in the evening, if there was any bus passing by that area). Initially I started reading the agreement but the agent seemed anxious and looked like he wanted me to hurry up. When I kept on reading everything was kind of blurry to me (not visually but mentally) since this agent or salesman was looking at me very impatient (and that bothered me a lot) because I was reading through the contract word per word (initially). I asked him again if I had to sign and initial everything like he told me before, just to make sure, and he said yes in a “come on hurry up fashion”, otherwise you cannot take the car, he told me again.

To make the story short I fell for this company’s scam (I guess that they train their agents to do this scam on people who just had an accident and they do it very well). When I brought back the rental car back to enterprise Rent a Car I was told that I owed (I don’t remember the exact figure but it was close to $300) for “extras” that “I wanted added” in the rental agreement. I told him that I didn’t need any extras, just a car to go back and forth to work, period, however he said that I since I initialed for all those extras I would have to pay for it (take it out of my bank account, that is). These creeps are simply taking advantage of people who have been in an accident – BEWARE! – And I don’t want to know what they probably do to elderly people… taking advantage of anybody they see that is sick or vulnerable.

They were supposed to return my $50 deposit two days after I gave them back the rented car, however just one day after returning the car and before the 15 of April deadline, which was when the balance for the “extras” had to be paid, they took an extra $50 out of my bank account. Needless to say I had to hurry up and change my card account number before this huge and powerful company could steal even more money out of my account.

I called Enterprise Rent a Car headquarters and explain my situation to the person who took my complain (Erika). She told me not to worry, that the situation would be resolved in no time at all. She even gave me a reference number (#140409-002330). I even told her that if I didn’t hear from the company I would have no other choice but to let other people know what’s going on with her company. Two days had passed and I still didn’t get any response from them. I still wanted to give this company a chance to contact me in order to resolve this situation so I called back and talked with another agent (Courtney). He told me more or less the same thing Erika told me and I also told him what I would do (spread the word out about what’s going on). He told me to give the company 48 more hours to resolve the situation.  Well it has been well over 36 hours I haven’t heard a word from any of them. I guess that with 176,000 pages full of complaints and rip-off reports one more complain won’t make any difference to them. All you need to do is write "enterprise rent a car complaints" in google search and you will see what I am talking about. Needless to say I will be posting this information in as many places in the Internet as I can find. I don’t like to be scammed, period.
