I am a disabled female who has a very low income. For this reason Verizon gives me a special rate. Last month my phone bill was $27.00, $18 more then my usual Bill.
My aide told me it was because of this ESBI charge for voice mail. I have never authorized this company for service nor did I apply for it. There was an 800 number so I paid my bill and proceded to call ESBI. Good luck, it is all automated and you never do speak to a human.

I finally chose my entry that told me if I left my name and phone number the voice mail service would cease within 24 hours. I did as they asked, I also left the same info on the other automated line with the promise that someone would get back to, they never did.

This month my bill came and you guessed it there is a bill for ESBI. I intend on contacting Verizon for letting this company just bill me never checking to see if I was using the service. As for ESBI I don't know what to do. They never return my call.

I need to check with my phone company.

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 09, 2004

Tomorrow, I'm going to call my local phone company and see if the charges have been credited yet. I did file a complaint with the FTC, but of course, I haven't heard from them. The problem is that I don't have any information about the company that originally contacted us. If we haven't been credited yet, then I'm going to call ESBI back and she what info I can get from them. I was so mad when I called them, I didn't even think to ask them about that companies info. I'll report more tomorrow...

CERTIFIED MAIL

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 08, 2004

Do you have an actual address to the company? Send them a letter certified mail stating that you cancelled in the allotted time and that you are not paying a dime and if they do not remove the charges or dare place anything on your credit report you will seek LEGAL action.

If you don't have an address email them and in the same line put your own email address (so you're emailing it to yourself) so they know that you have a DATED document which states the above.

If you only have the phone number then record the conversation and state to her that you are in fact recording it, and disclose the same exact thing. Also, let her know that you have reported them on this site.

Update from 2nd poster of this report... I really wish my local phone company would get involved in this

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 02, 2004

I just wanted to give you an update to let you know that I still have not received my credit. The next month's phone bill arrived without the credit. I called ESBI's 800# again, and I got Mary again. (Is she the only one that works there? Or just a weird coincidence..not sure.) I asked her why my credit had not been issued, and she told me to be patient. That it would take a month for it to show up. So...I just received my next month's bill, and still no credit. It shows that I have an overdue amount of $116.38 which is the amount that ESBI charged us. I really wish my local phone company would get involved in this and help with this dispute, but they won't. If anyone has any suggestions, I would definately like to hear them. I guess I'll have to give them another month and see what happens. That will be 3 months total after my 1st phone call to Mary. This is ridiculous!!

I, too, have been battling ESBI

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 24, 2004

About 7 or 8 months ago, my husband received a phone call about listing our company on the internet. We have a small business that we run out of our house. The only reason he said yes to this was because it was a "free" trial and we would be able to cancel, if we wanted, when we received the info in the mail. Well, after I found out that he had signed up for this, I was very upset, but knew I'd just have to wait for the info in the mail.

When I received the info, I IMMEDIATELY called the number to cancel the service. I talked to someone (can't remember their name) and they said "No problem, it is canceled". Well, 3 or 4 months later, I found a charge on the back page of our phone bill from a company called ESBI, and all it said was "ISP Service".

Well, I knew that I hadn't signed up for a new internet service provider, so I really wasn't sure what this was. I called the number listed on my bill, but of course, they were closed for the weekend. I checked this site first, but didn't find any listings.

So, I did a general search for them, and found out that their company name is Enhanced Services Billing, Inc. They are a company that submits charges to your phone company for another company. In other words, they are a middle man.

I did find a website for them and sent them an email regarding this charge and that I didn't know why I was getting charged or what it was for. (I didn't realize until much later that it was the service that my husband had agreed to over the phone.)

I received an email back from the company, and they said that they would send a credit to our phone company for two months of service..since they had already billed another month since my last phone bill.

I also called my phone company and explained the situation, and that I would NOT be paying for those charges. They told me that I was right in not paying while the charges were in dispute. They could not turn off our phone for non-payment of these charges.

So, I thought that I had it all straightened out. I mean, they agreed to credit our account, so they should have figured that I wasn't going to pay them. Well, the next month, the credit is there, but the following month we got charged again! For two months this time.

I IMMEDIATELY called the 800# listed on the bill, and spoke to a person by the name of Mary. She was very rude after I explained my story and she said that these charged were authorized by my husband. That is when I figured out what this was all about.

I explained to her that I had canceled that right away. She wanted to know who I talked to. I had kept that info for several months, but had thrown it away when nothing was charged on our phone bill. She said that she would NOT credit us for the two months we had been charged without the persons name that I had spoken to.

I told her this was unacceptible, and if that was needed, why then did the company credit us the first time? She didn't know. She finally agreed to credit us for one month. I told here this also was unacceptible, that I wanted credit for both months. I am waiting for my next phone bill to see how much she credited us this time. As you can see, I made sure to get her name and made notes of the conversation so I can dispute this next time.

I really think the FCC should get involved in these scams! Our phone company said that they have heard of different scams from some other customers. They were getting charges on their phone bills just by clicking on a popup ad. No info was even provided. Now, that is second hand info, and not what I experienced, but just in case it is true, I am staying away from popup ads.

A free trial should be just that...and if you decide you don't want the service and cancel with in the time alloted, you should not be charged. We are being charged over $58 per month for one mistake in judgement. You can bet my husband won't fall for that again!

Good luck to you...I hope it all works out. This was a lot longer response than I planned, but I wanted you to know that you aren't the only one who has had to deal with ESBI. They deal with many different types of companies as a middleman, so I'm sure we aren't the only ones who have had to deal with this. I'm hoping that others respond to this post, so I can see how others have been affected to. Thanks for listening!!
